I talked about my next children's book project for the Tibetan refugee children in exile and told him that I wanted to make a book on the environmental issue, especially focused on the Himalayan ecology. He told me to come and join him at the environmental conference in India. He also said to me that it is very, very important to educate young children about the environmental issue. I remember the melting glacier in Ladakh last year. Time is running out for the earth... and for Tibet, too.
今日は、NY訪問中のダライラマ法王と正式謁見をする幸運に恵まれました。今まで何度もお会いしたことがありましたが、正式な謁見は初めてで、緊張しました。旦那さんと、カメラマンの女性とビデオカメラの４人でしたが、謁見のお部屋に猊下が招いて下さると、カメラマンとビデオマンは、お付きの人にすぐに部屋を出る様に言われ、旦那と私と猊下と秘書の４人だけになりました。緊張して言いたい事の半分も言えませんでしたが、どうにか、きちんと話すことができました。「ブックスフォーチルドレン」の次の絵本についてお話しました。「ヒマラヤの環境について教育する絵本を考えています」とお伝えすると、とても熱心に「それは、とても、とても大切なことです。もうすぐインドにいらっしゃい」とおっしゃいました。環境をテーマにしたコンフェレンスでお話されるようで、私も招いて下さったのです。
