June Bride in New York ニューヨークのジューンブライド

This piece I did some years ago is called, "Bell," and it is a painting of an actual passage in SoHo near my studio in NoLita. One day I saw a bride in a beautiful gown walking there. "What is she doing here?" Why is she alone?" I kept thinking about her that day, and I saw this scene so that I made into a painting.
I usually paint what I see in my dreams. My dreams are often nightmares, and I wish they were more joyful like this beautiful bride in a dark alley!

これは数年前に描いた「ベル」という作品で、舞台は
ノリータのアトリエの近くの小さな小道です。ゴージャス
なウエディングドレスを着た花嫁が独り、この裏通りを
歩いていたんです。「なぜ独り？」「なぜこんなところに？」
とあれこれ彼女の人生について想像していたら、後日、
こんなシーンが夢に出て来て、それを絵にしました。

私は普段から見た夢を絵に描いていますが、実は
悪夢も沢山！毎晩、綺麗な花嫁たちが登場して
来てくれたら良いのになあ～
