My Exhibition Starts on Halloween!

Oops, sorry, the photo is upside down! It says, "Kirana," and it means "light" in Sanskrit. My exhibition, "Kirana" starts on Halloween day, the 31st.

Our world today has endless sorrow and problems. However, no matter what happens the moon shows up every night, and the sun shines every morning. Light always exists, and it has never stopped giving us hope and strength throughout the history.

I am hoping, every day, that the light reaches out to more people around the world to give them hope and courage to endure. Sometimes we cannot see light, but let us remember, it is always there for us. I hope you will come to my exhibition and give me some feedback!

３１日はハローウイーンの日に始まる個展「キラナ・光」の準備も整って来ました。
キラナ、、という美しい言葉。実はこれ、サンスクリット語で「光」を意味しています。

様々な悲しみや問題が絶えない私たちの世の中。でも、どんな悲惨で辛い日でも、その夜には必ず月が出て、翌朝には太陽が輝きます。
光は、どんな時にも必ず存在して、私たちに勇気や希望を与えて来てくれた。光が見えない時もあるけれど、光は必ず常にあるんですね。

ひとりでも多くの人たちに光が届き、ひとりでも多くの人々が元気になり幸せになれるように心を込めて描きました。新作展、楽しみにしていて下さいね。

Getting ready for my solo exhibition 個展の準備

My solo exhibition is one week away, and I am getting busy. It is my 18th year at the Isetan Art Gallery, and I must say that time flies! When I reflect on those 18 years I cannot find one single moment that I was satisfied with my work. If there was it was only for a day or two. I have talked with my artists friends about it, and they all feel the same way. Many of us may think we are genius at a certain moment of creation, but usually the next day we feel disappointed by looking at the same piece. Creation is our eternal challenge where we may never feel accomplished. Yet, we keep creating. Why? I do not know. For me, art is just a tool. Tool to make yourself useful. So I do not have much attachment to being an artist. If I find another better tool I shall use it. It is more important to make your useful. However, for some reason I have a feeling that I will be an artist for the rest of my life whether I like or not. As long as I can contribute I shall continue.

The exhibition, Gods and All Living Things starts on October 19 to 25 at Isetan Art Gallery.

今年で１８年目になる新宿伊勢丹アートギャラリーでの個展が、一週間後にせまって来ました。あっという間の１８年間でした。時が経つのはなんて速いのでしょう！１８年を振り返ってみて、アーティストとして満足した時は一度もありませんでした。あったとしてもそれは一瞬のこと。アーティスト仲間に聞いてみると、皆同じ答えでした。ある瞬間、自分は天才だ！と思っても、翌日同じ作品見てみるとたいしたことなくてがっかりしたり、、。笑　決して満足することがないのが、クリエイトする立場の人生なのかもしれません。

それではなぜ創りつづけるのでしょう？それはわかりません。私にとっては、アーティストでいるということよりも、どうやったら自分が世の中に役立つ人間になれるか、、の方が大事なことです。アートは道具にすぎません。もっと自分を生かせる道具がみつかれば、そちらを使うと思います。でも、なぜかしら、私は一生、アーティストでいるような気がしています。そのことによって、貢献できることが少しでもある限り、続けようと思っています。（これからもヨロシクネ！）笑

個展「神とすべての生きものたち」　は、１０月１９日から２５日まで、新宿伊勢丹アートギャラリーにて。１０月２２日（土）は午後２時からサイン会、１０月２３日（日）は午後２時よりトークとサイン会があります。
