My first break... 初めての一息

It's been crazy busy since we moved to San Diego. Everyday is a battle... with driving and getting lost, with carrying heavy boxes, arguing what to do, how to do this and that... just to name a few. Today was the first day that I had a sit down lunch... on my beautiful terrace! I made a quick sandwich with smoked salmon and the Japanese crispy cucumbers. A cold blueberry soda from the Trader Joe and some peaches. It was just perfect.

サンディエゴに来てからずっと慌ただしい日々が続いていました。今日、初めてテラスでゆっくりとランチをすることができました。簡単なスモークサーモンと日本のキュウリのサンドイッチを作りました。トレーダージョーのナチュラルブルーベリーソーダも美味しかった。桃も美味しかったし、すべて最高。

My First Car 最初の車

Well, we did it! We have purchased our first car in San Diego! It is a Honda Civic Hybrid. I love this light blue color! It is my first car ever to own. When I was 16 years old I got my driver's license, but I never liked to drive, therefore, I have never owned a car before..., but now living in California we must have a car every day. I always wanted a hybrid car. Now I do. This is exciting!

とうとう買いました〜！ホンダシヴィックのハイブリッド。淡いブルーの色に一目惚れ。乗り心地も良いし、最高に気に入っています。１６歳で免許をとって以来、ぜんぜん運転していませんでしたが、ここカリフォルニアでは車無しでは生活できません、、、。車はハイブリッドと決めていたので、ワクワクしています！

Farmers' Market ファーマーズマーケット

There is a farmers' market in Hillcrest on Sundays. I went there around 10am, wearing a hat and sunglasses. The sun was so strong already that I felt the tingling burn on my skin. The market was so lovely! There were so many fresh California fruits such as cherries and sweet grapefruits.

毎週日曜日にヒルクレストにやって来るファーマーズマーケットに行ってみました。朝１０時だというのに、太陽がさんさんと照っていて、帽子とサングラス、カーデガンで肌をカバーしても、ジリジリと太陽が肌にしみ込むのが感じられます。マーケットはとってもチャーミング！
美味しそうなカリフォルニアのさくらんぼや甘いグレープフルーツが沢山ありました。


Since we moved here we have been eating out every day so I cannot wait to start cooking again.
I found some fresh kale and beautiful yellow squash. We were invited to a pizza party in our building, so our dinner was to be light - steamed kale and tofu with some grain. Simple and clean!

サンディエゴに着いてからずっと外食ばかり続いていたので、またお料理を始めるのが楽しみです。マーケットで新鮮なケイルとイエローズッキーニをみつけました。今日は午後に、お隣さんからピザパーティに招待されているので、ディナーは軽めにしよう。蒸したケイルとお豆腐。それに玄米。シンプル＆クリーン！

Days in San Diego サンディエゴでの日々

This is our 4th day in San Diego, and it has been wonderful. We wake up with the sunshine every morning. I love the view from my studio window. Lots of palm trees and colorful flowers everywhere! サンディエゴに来て４日が過ぎました。毎朝、太陽の光で目が覚めます。私のアトリエからの眺めも最高！ヤシの木や色とりどりの花がそこら中に咲き乱れています。


Every morning I drink my special chai in the terrace. I have been unpacking and unpacking... it is certainly a physical labor, so I must eat a huge breakfast, too! 毎朝、特製チャイをテラスで飲みます。引っ越しの荷解きで毎日忙しいので、朝からいっぱい食べて頑張っています！



At the end of a long and busy day the moon came out to give us some healing energy... Oh, how beautiful that was. The moon, please charge me with more energy because I have so much more unpacking to do!!! 　長くて忙しい一日の終わりには、こうして美しいお月さまがお顔を出してくれました。まあ、なんてステキ。お月さまよ、どうか、もっと私にパワーを下さい！明日もまだまだ荷解きをしなくてはならないのですよ〜！

Encounter 出会い

This Buddha head is bigger than a human head. It is a hand-made wood sculpture from Bali. I ran into to his head on the street in Astoria, Queens one night. This Buddha was thrown out on the street at the garbage area. There was another woman who had found this before me, and she was looking at it for a while. I ran towards the head, bent down on my knees and held it in my arms and said loudly to her, "I am a Buddhist. I must have this!!!" She smiled and left. I felt badly afterwards so I tried to catch her, but she was gone. I looked at the Buddha. He was smiling at me. OK, perhaps you meant to be mine....? :)

人間の頭より大きなこの木製の仏頭は、バリ島で創られたもののようです。ついていたタグにそう書いてありました。クイーンズ地区のアストリアの路上に捨てられていた仏頭。見たとたんに走り寄って行って、抱きかかえた私。私より先にみつけてこの仏頭をみつめていた女性に「私は仏教徒だからこれをほうっておけない！」をつい叫んでしまったのでした。
女性はにやっとすると、スタスタと歩いて行ってしまいました。ふと我に返った私は、急に恥ずかしくなって、彼女の後を追いかけたのですが、もう追いつきませんでした。なんだか、奪ってしまったみたいですねえ、、、。笑
仏頭を見ると、優しく微笑んでいました。これも縁か、、、と思って大事にしています。

Near and Far 近くと遠く

You know who it is. That's right, it is Grover from the Sesame Street! I have always loved him. He is so gentle, sweet and funny. A friend has sent me this link (below) to describe the "distance" between New York and San Diego. Well, it makes sense! Thank you, Grover. The distance is not that bad, after all!

この愛くるしいお顔は、そう、セサミストリートでおなじみのグローバー。私は昔からグローバーが好きでした。優しくて面白いんです。先日、ある友人が、上のリンクを送ってくれました。何回見ても笑いが止まりません、、、！「距離」というものも、そう悪いものじゃないですネ。サンディエゴとニューヨークもそう遠くないか、、、。笑

Love Everywhere... 愛がそこら中に、、、

I am sorry, but I had to post this photo! How elegant it that? Just beautiful. I am speechless. Nature. Love. Life is wonderful! I am a Daikon lover. I love Daikon (radish) so much that my first children's book, Wonder Talk, was about a giant Daikon. This photo was sent to me randomly so I have no idea who had taken it, but if I ever found Daikon like this I would not know what to do... I wouldn't dare to eat them. I would put them by the window and celebrate their beauty, and watch 'this couple' get old like anything in life... Nature is amazing.

すみません、でもこの写真、どうしても載せたくて、、、！なんて美しい。エレガント。もう息を飲むばかり、、。自然はすばらしい。大根だいすきな私です。最初に創った子供のの絵本も、巨大な大根の物語でした。この写真はランドムに送られて来たもので、誰がどこで撮った写真か分かりませんが、もしもこんな大根をみつけてしまったらどうしよう、、、？食べるわけにはいかないなあ、、、。きっと窓辺にそっと置いて、少しづつ衰えていく「二人」を見つめていることでしょう、、。

My Last Walk with Wally & Chai 最後のお散歩

Wally, my pug Chai's best friend came to visit and spent two days with us. Chai was frantically happy to be with Wally. I just could not tell Chai that this was the last time he would see Wally... because we are moving to San Diego very soon. I just tear up. Wally, thank you for taking care of Chai, and thank you for being such a good 'brother' and a friend to him. We will definitely come and visit you!

チャイのベスとフレンド、ウオリーが２日間遊びに来てくれました。大喜びのチャイ。私はどうしても、これがウオリーと会える最後の日だということをチャイに言えませんでした。考えただけで涙が出て来てしまうのです。もうすぐサンディエゴにお引っ越しする私たち、、、。
今度ウオリーと会える日はいつでしょうか、、、。ウオリー、チャイの面倒を見てくれてありがとう！きっとまた会いに来るからね！
