My book launch in New York! NYでの出版パーティ

So many fabulous New Yorker friends came to my book launch at the Rubin Museum of Art last night despite the awful rain. My god, do I love New York! I was so happy to have Richard (Gere) who has written a foreword for my book, "Save the Himalayas" come, too. My books were all sold out at the book launch, but now it is available online (such as Amazon) worldwide, so check it out! What a super wonderful night it was. I cannot thank you enough, my dear New Yorkers :)



昨夜のルービン美術館での出版記念パーティは、あいにくの大雨でしたが、沢山の方々がいらしてくださいました！そう、序文を寄せてくれたリチャード（ギア）も駆けつけてくれました。絵本も売り切れてしまいました。あ、でも今日からワールドワイドでオンライン購入可能になりましたので、海外にお住まいの皆さんも、アマゾンなどで見てみて下さいね！本当に最高の一夜となりました。昨夜来て下さった皆さん、本当にありがとうございました！

Back in New York City! NYに戻りました！

It is warmer than SoCal here in New York right now, and the red and yellow leaves in the Central Park are stunning gorgeous! I've missed the four seasons indeed, and this is wonderful to experience the beautiful autumn. I passed my favorite museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the way to my meeting at the Asia Society. I shall come back to check it out this weekend. Tonight is my big book launch event at the Rubin Museum of Art!

なんと南カリフォルニアより暖かいニューヨーク！大騒ぎして冬服ばかり
持ってきたのにい～。嬉しいけれどネ。セントラルパークの
紅葉は見事です。あ～四季ってやっぱり良いな。着いて
早速アジアソサエティ美術館とのミーティングのため、大好きな
メトロポリタン美術館を横目でちらちらみながら通り過ぎ
ました。今週末絶対に見に来るからね！今夜はルービン美術館
での出版記念パーティです。セレブも沢山来ます～！皆さん、
成功を祈っていてくださいネ！

Autumn is here in SoCal 南カリフォルニアの秋

Autumn has come to SoCal again. I've noticed this strange sound at home, and have realized that it's the sound of the dead palm leaves outside. They are about to fall into the ground. When they fall on the ground they look like this photo above. So when I walk my pug, Chai I try to be extra careful to make sure that they don't fall on us! However, even in autumn the dead palm leaves are lucky enough to fall onto those lovely flowers, and that is SoCal!

南カリフォルニアも秋になりました。家の中にいても、外からサワサワ～という音が
一日中聞こえてきます。何かと思ったら、ヤシの木の葉が枯れて地面に落ちそう
になっているのです。しばらくすると、この写真のように葉は落ちます。ひとつが
かなり大きいので、万が一頭の上に落ちて来たら一大事！なので犬の散歩の
時も、上でサワサワ～と音すると気をつけるようにしています。でもこうして、枯れ葉
も一年中咲いている綺麗な花々の上に落ちるのもカリフォルニアならでは。笑


My pug seems to love the beautiful fallen leaves. I took him to the Balboa Park, and he was
running around so happily on those red & yellow leaves. Perhaps it reminds him of the gorgeous Autumn Central Park where he went when he was one year old. I am off to New York now - my home, sweet home :)

私のパグ犬チャイは、秋の落ち葉が大好き。昨日もバルボアパーク
にお散歩に行くと嬉しそうに赤や黄色の枯れ葉の上で駆け回って
遊んでいました。まだ１歳の頃、ニューヨークのセントラルパークの
紅葉を見せに連れて行ったことを覚えてるのかな？私はもうすぐ
ニューヨーク。故郷へ戻ります。嬉しくて眠れないくらいです！

Chai being blue... ブルーなチャイ？

My pug dog, Chai Tandoori is almost three years old. He seems blue lately as I have been away from home traveling a lot. He is more attached to my husband, so it should not matter so much whether I am home or not, but is it my imagination that he seems blue when I take out my suitcases? I am off to New York soon, then to LA afterwards. I shall stay home in December. Chai, please be a good boy until then, OK?

もうすぐ３歳になる私のパグ、チャイ・タンドーリ。最近私の留守が多いせいか、
そっけない表情。そもそも私より、旦那さんの方になついているので、私が
家にいてもいなくても、それほど変わりは無いのかも知れませんが、
スーツケースを出して来るとちょっと寂しそうに見えるのは、私の勝手な
エゴでしょうか？笑　　もうすぐニューヨーク、そしてその後は、またすぐ
ロスアンジェルス、、と今年は本当に忙しい。でも１２月はどこへも
行かずにお家にいるようにするから、チャイよ、どうかお利口さんにして
待っていてね。

Double Rainbow 二重の虹

SoCal is shining sunny as usual. When I arrived a double rainbow welcomed
me home. Wow! My baby tomatoes have grown high (almost my height) with
a couple of green fruits, and my succulents have grown gigantic that made me
freak out. I am off to cold New York in a few days, and I'd love to relax a little
in this paradise...! although I know that I won't ;(

一ヶ月ぶりの南カリフォルニアは、相変わらず太陽がさんさんと
輝いています。私が到着すると、なんと二重の虹が
お出迎え。わーお！　育てていたトマトは、なんと私の背丈くらい
にまで成長し、青い実を２つつけて待っていてくれました。
カクタスたちも巨大になっていて、ドキッとしたほど。
またすぐ寒いニューヨークへ発ちますが、数日間は
この楽園でのんびりしたいものです、、、！（できないけど。笑）

Good bye, Tokyo さようなら東京

Once again this year's visit to Tokyo was so hectic that I did not even have one single day off - no time for shopping, eating out, nothing. A few hours before my departure for California I finally had 15 minuets to check out the local Seven Eleven, and found this. A green tea white chocolate bagel. My first reaction was "gross" because I hate white chocolates (they are not even chocolates!) However, I thought how Japanese that was, and was curious enough to try it. Being a bagel lover my family has been suffering from not having an authentic New York bagels ever since they have returned from New York. My parents in Tokyo have tried all bagels in Tokyo, but have not found any good ones yet. Bagels in Japan look like the real bagels, but the texture is totally fake - too fluffy. Surprisingly, this green tea bagels had good texture!..., but the taste was unfortunately what I had expected it - not good. However, this bagels gave me a small fun at the end of my long trip in Tokyo. Japan always amuses me with her unique creation! Tokyo, until the next time!

今年の帰国も異常な忙しさで、ショッピングに行く日も一日もありませんでした。カリフォルニアに戻る日の朝やっと１５分程時間ができたので、近くのセブンイレブンを見ることに。そしてこの抹茶＆ホワイトチョコベーグルを発見。最初の反応は「気持ち悪い」でした。だって私はホワイトチョコが大嫌い。（ホワイトチョコなんでチョコレートじゃありません！）でも、ベーグル自体に興味あったので買ってみました。私の家族は長かったニューヨーク生活の後帰国して以来、日本で美味しいベーグルを探し続けて来ましたが、未だ出会えていないのです。日本のベーグルは、形は立派なベーグルですが、ドウが違う。ふわっとしすぎなんです。驚いたことに、この抹茶ベーグルの触感は、ニューヨークベーグル（ベーグルの本場）に近いものがありました。味は予想どおりまあまあでしたが、、笑。長い東京滞在の最後でやっと小さな楽しみが体験できました。日本はいつもユニークなクリエイションで私を驚かせてくれるのです！東京、また来年にね！

Down with a cold... ちょっとダウン

After my exhibition and book launch in Tokyo are over I got this bad coughing cold. Every time I come home to my parents once a year I seem to manage to be sick, and I feel pretty bad about it... So my parents made some home made dumplings and udon noodles for me. They make everything from a scratch. My father puts on one of his favorite operetta, "Merry Widow" and when the entire CD is over preparation is usually finished. Needless to say the dumplings and udon were delicious! A bad cold is going around Tokyo - hope you take care of yourselves!

秋の個展と絵本出版記念パーティと続いたせいでしょうか、パーティの直後から咳がひどくなり、寝込んでしまいました。毎年帰国すると必ず風邪をひいてしまう私、、、。子供の頃から体が強い方ではなく、いくら気を付けていても風邪をひいてしまうのです。一年に一度しか帰国しないのに、両親には申し訳ないなあと思っています。そんな両親は、私に元気を出してほしいと、朝から早起きして餃子と手打ちうどんを作ってくれました。両親は粉から練ってすべて作ります。いつもオペレッタの「メリーウイドウ」を聴きながら作ると、ちょうどオペレッタが終わったころにすべて完成するんです！沢山食べて元気をつけました。風邪が流行っているようです。皆さんも気をつけてくださいね！
