China Bombs Ancient Buddhas 中国が古代仏教遺跡を破壊

China soon will be bombing one of the most exquisite ancient Buddhist ruins in Mes
Aynak, the central Afghanistan. In the past this incredible heritage survived from the Taliban's destruction on the Buddhist sites, and there still some Buddhist monasteries and thousands of
Buddhist statues exist today. 

もうすぐ中国がアフガニスタン中部に残っている４世紀の古代仏教
遺跡を鉱山業のため破壊します。ここメス・アイナクの遺跡は、
タリバンによる仏教遺跡破壊ものがれ、仏教寺院や数千体の
仏像が残っている地域です。

I love the Buddhist arts from all over the world, and especially I have a sweet spot for
the Afghan Buddhas. I've traveled around the world to see those breathtakingly
beautiful statues including the ones from the Gandara/Kushan era. They are so different
from any other Buddhist arts having been influenced by Greek, Persian, Roman, Hindu,
Islamic and the Buddhist, and have the most unique marriage of the East and West.

The Taliban destroyed the great Buddha statues in the past, and now it is the
Chinese.... only for a tiny percentage of exclusive members.

Of course I signed the petition page myself, but I wish there were more things we could do to help prevent this massive cultural destruction. I feel so frustrated and at the same time, I feel hopeless.

China is making a mess everywhere on our planet, and the international community
is looking down on China with contempt, yet does really not say much.

仏教美術を愛する私は、中でも特に、このアフガニスタン
地域に残る仏像が好きで、世界中を廻ってガンダーラ／クシャーン
時代のものをはじめ、息を飲む程美しい多くの芸術を見て来ました。
ギリシャ、ペルシャ、ヒンドウー、ローマン、イスラム、そして
仏教の影響を受け、西洋と東洋の美がなんとも言えない
形で融合し、独特のスタイルを生み出したのが、この
アフガニスタンに残る仏教美術です。

かつてバーミャンの古代仏教遺跡を破壊したのはタリバンでした。
今日は、経済利益のみが目的の中国の手によって破壊されよう
としています。

私ももちろん署名しましたが、他に何かできることが無いのだろうか、、。
無力な自分にイライラすると同時に、
何もできずに、こうして世界の文化遺産が無惨に破壊されていく
ことを、ただ見ているしか無いことに、絶望感さえ感じます。

世界中で暴れ回っている中国、、。
それを呆れた目で見ながらも、何も言えない
国際社会。

The 80's is back! ８０年代ファッション復活！

To attend this 80's theme gala dinner I had to dig my closet to find the 80's fashion
items, and I succeeded somehow- Big shoulder pads, big hair, big tutu and a high-heeled
shoes!

８０年代ファッションがテーマのガラディナーパーティに
出席するため、クローゼットの中を探しまくって、どうにか
コーディネイト。ショルダーパッドにビッグヘア～、とんがった
ハイヒール。そして、そう、なんと言ってもチュチュですね～！

Many gala guests arrived as Madonna, Devo, David Bowie, John McEnroe,
Ronald Reagan...

エイティーズ風に飾られたガラ会場に到着したゲスト
たちの多くは、マドンナ、ディーヴォ、デイヴィッド・ボウイ、
ジョン・マッケンロー、リーガン元大統領などに変装して
いました。

We cannot talk about the 80's without George Michael!

８０代と言えば忘れられないのがジョージ・マイケル！

This beautiful woman was a former Hollywood comedian, and talking about comedians
our surprise guest speaker was Will Ferrel, and he was hysterical ever!

While shopping the other day it made me realize that the 80's fashion had been back -
the neon colors, polka dots and lots of stripes...

I lived the 80's in New York, the golden era of the night clubs scenes, and all the
memories of the sleepless nights are still vivid today!

こちらは、ガラのチェアーウーマンで、元ハリウッドのコメディアン。
コメディアンと言えば、ガラに特別ゲストスピーカーとして
サプライズ出席した、ハリウッドの大人気俳優、
ウイル・フェレルは、もう最高に可笑しかったです！
最近、久々にショッピングに行って初めて気付いたのですが、
ファッションはすっかり８０年代に戻っているんですね！
ネオンカラーに水玉模様、ストライプ、、。
８０年代のニューヨーク。NYの黄金時代と呼ばれる
ナイトシーンで毎晩のように遊び歩いた時代が懐かしい！

King of Snack おやつの王様

We can get kale, the king of vegetables, anywhere in the states, but it's rather a rare vegetable in Japan. The Japanese may know kale as "green juice," but hardly eat them at home. Kale is a kind
of cabbage family, and it has a deep distinguished taste.

Kale chips are very popular snack items in America today... at least in big cities. A bag of five or
six pieces of kale chips may cost up to 7 dollars! Since I can get so much fresh organic kale at the farmers market I make my own kale chips at home - I put kale on the baking sheet, sprinkle some extra virgin oil and the Himalayan pink salt, and bake them in the oven. You can sprinkle some Parmesan cheese and chili if you like. They are so crispy, and remind me of the texture of nori, the dried seaweeds. They taste really good!

ケールはアメリカでは「野菜の王者」と言われているくらい
栄養素が高い野菜で、どこでも販売されています。
日本では「青汁」の素材として知られているくらいで、
店頭ではあまり見かけませんね。キャベツの一種で、味は
濃厚です。
アメリカでは、このケールチップというスナックが今とても
人気で、一袋に数枚ケールが入って７ドル以上もします。
毎週、ファーマーズマーケットで新鮮なオーガニックケールが
手に入るので、家でケールチップを沢山作りました。そう、
オーブンでベイクするだけ。オーブンプレイトにケールを
並べて、オリーブオイルとヒマラヤンピンクソルトを少々
ふりました。お好みではパルメザンチーズやチリをかけても
美味しいです。出来上がったチップスはパリパリしていて、
感触は焼き海苔のよう。ケールの深い味も最高です！

There are several kinds of kale. The one in the middle (photo above) is a flat leafy type,
and the one on the left is called, the Tuscan Kale, and they have curly leaves. They taste different, too. Dr. Andrew Weil's signature dish, The Tuscan Kale Salad is one of my everyday dinner items. You can cut up the kale, and mix with extra virgin olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, Parmesan cheese and salt & pepper. You can put lots of chili if you like. Let it sit for a while until the kale becomes soft.

It's getting harder and harder to get safe and healthy food today, and this is a very healthy and
nutritious snack you can make at home. You certainly won't feel sick and guilty afterwards as eating the junk food!

ケールにも数種類あって、ファーマーズマーケットには
いつも３種類くらいが並びます。上の写真ですと、
真ん中の種類は、葉がヒラヒラしたタイプ。その左奥が
タスカンケールといって、葉が縮れたタイプ。味もそれぞれ
違うんです。

レシピ「タスカンケールサラダ」は、我が家では毎日欠かせない
メニューのひとつ。切ったケールにオリーブオイルと、ニンニク
のみじん切りとパルメザンチーズ（粉状）、塩、胡椒であえて、
しばらく寝かせておきます。ケールがソフトになったら食べ頃。

安全な食品を手に入れることが困難になって来た時代に、
お家でできる簡単で栄養たっぷりの美味しいスナック。ジャンクフードの
ように食べた後の悲劇も無いし、最高です。

My Darling 私のダーリン♡

Today I'd like to share an episode of my husband. I found several gift cards of a famous
coffee chain store on his desk the other day, so I asked him what those were for. He said,
"I saw this homeless woman trying to buy a cup of coffee with a gift card, but denied
because there was no money left on the card. Obviously she must have found the card
somewhere. This made me decide to carry some gift cards so that I can give to homeless
people who want to have a cup of coffee or tea here and there..."

I was so surprised to hear this because I had no idea that he had been doing this. It's a small
act that won't change any big social problems of our society, but it is certainly a sweet act that
anyone can do every day... and he is actually doing it. Such a wonderful living example was
right here next to me. How about that!?

What a sweet person he is! But of course, he is the man I chose, indeed :)

今日はちょっとだけ私の旦那さんのお話。
この間、彼のデスクの上に、数枚のあるコーヒーチェーン店
のギフトカードがありました。なぜか尋ねると、
ダーリンはこう答えたんです。
「この間、コーヒー店の列に並んでいたら、あるホーム
レスの女性がギフトカードを使って一杯のコーヒーを
買おうとしていたんだ。でもカードにはお金が残って
いなくて断られたの。おそらくその女性はカードをどこかで
拾ったんだと思う。それを見て以来、いつもギフトカード
を持ち歩いていて、コーヒーや紅茶を飲みたがっている
ホームレスがいたらプレゼントしているんだ。」
彼がこんなことしているなんて全く知らなかったので、
ビックリしました。これは社会問題の解決にはならない
程小さなことだけれど、誰でもができるスイートな行動
だと思って感動した私です。
小さいことでも誰かのためにできることを実行する。
そんな生きたお手本が、こんなに身近にいたとは、、！
ダーリン、やっぱり優しい。私が選んだ人だけあるネ！へへへ

Peace Art Exhibition 2013 "Magic of Prayers"

"Peace Art Exhibition" started right after 9.11 in New York City, and now its 17th exhibition has been held at Yokohama Sozotoshi Center until April 02. It's showing 100 artists works from around the world, and my piece is "Magic of Prayers" (show above) that was the cover of my book, "The Little Black Box" (KK Bestsellers).
I hope my art will help the viewers feel peaceful in this crazy world with ongoing wars and misery that we all share today.

9.11同時多発テロの直後にニューヨークーで始まった
『ピースアート展』１７回目が、横浜のヨコハマ創造都市
センターにて４月２日まで開催されています。世界の
百人のアーティストによる作品ポスター展で、私は
この「祈りの魔法」（『藤田理麻の小さな黒い箱』KK
ベストセラーズ）の表紙になった作品を提供しました。
毎日、悲しい事件や災害が続く世の中ですが、
この作品が一瞬でも人々の心の平和へつながれば
嬉しく思います。
