Dog Surfing Contest ドッグサーフィンコンテスト

We went to see the famous Socal's Dog Surfing Contest for the first time, and the doggies were
so cute! The big ones and little ones, they all wore the life vests and surfed! This is
a Portuguese water dog - the President Obama has one - and he seemed so happy to be
in the water!

南カリフォルニアに来て以来、初めて「犬サーフィンコンテスト」に
行って来ました。もう、可愛いのなんのって！小さい犬も
大きい犬も、皆ライフヴェストを着て参加します。この写真は
オバマ大統領も飼っているウオータードッグで、とても嬉しそう
にサーフィンしていました。

There were several thousand people watching the contest, and most of them had
fury companions. The beach was near the border of Mexico, and it was absolutely
tropical!

ビーチは数千人の観客で盛り上がっていました。
殆どがワン子連れ。メキシコの国境に近いビーチ
だったのですが、もう雰囲気はまさに南国！

We ran into many pugs, too. Our pug, Chai has not swum once yet because my husband
does not believe that pugs can swim. As a swimmer I want Chai to try to swim, so
perhaps this summer we put a life vest on Chai to give a try. Who knows, he may be the
next surfing champion!

パグも沢山集まっていました。私のパグ、チャイは、
まだ泳いだことがありません。私の旦那さんが「パグは
泳げない」と決めつけていて、水に入れないんです。
でも、水泳大好きな私の希望で、今年の夏は、チャイに
ライフヴェストをつけて、泳がせてみようということに
なりました。分かりませんよ、チャイも来年サーフィング
コンテストに出場できるかも！？？？

Spring has come to Socal, and actually it feels more like a summer during the day.
Vivid flowers are blooming everywhere, and my pug dog, Chai is loving it!

南カリフォルニアもすっかり春。とは言え、日中は夏みたい
です。鮮やかな花々も満開！愛犬パグのチャイも大喜びです！

Chai tries to hump every dog he meets during his walks... Well, he is a 28 yr-old virgin
after all (4 years old in dog age.) The other night I saw him sleeping like this on the sofa.
It's cute, but a bit sad... Since spring has come I hope that love will come to Chai soon!

お散歩に出会う犬にすぐハンプしようとする我が息子、、。
２８歳（犬の４歳）のヴァージンです。昨夜、居間に行くと、
ソファの上でこんな風に寝ていました、、。
可愛いけど、ちょっと可哀想、、、（？）
春も来たことだし、チャイにも恋のチャンスがやって来ますように！

Pug, pug, pus! パグ、パグ、パグ！

The first time I ever saw a pug was in Ashiya city, Japan, and I was 11 years old.
My class mate had a pug, and when I saw him I fell in love immediately. It was
not only I who was taken by pugs. The photo above is Josephine, the wife of
Napoleon Bonaparte. They were both huge pug lovers, and throughout their
lives they had three pugs all named, "Fortune."

私が初めてパグを見たのは、芦屋に住んでいた子供の頃
でした。同級生が飼っていて、もう一目惚れ。パグに心を
奪われたのは私だけではありません～　上の写真はナポレオン
の奥様ジョセフィン。彼女もナポレオンも大のパグファンでした。
生涯３匹飼ったそうですが、皆、名前が同じ「フォーチュン」！

The pugs' origin comes from Tibet in 400 BC. They were guard dogs at the
Buddhist monasteries. In the 17th century they were introduced to Europe,
and among the royalties they became the most popular and trendy lap dogs.
The photo above is Queen Victoria and her pugs. She was a huge pug fan, too.

パグは４００BC頃、チベットの寺院で飼われていた犬です。
１７世紀にヨーロッパにわたり、王室や貴族の間で大人気
となりました。この写真はイギリスのビクトリア女王が愛した
パグ。彼女も大のパグファンでした。

Duke of Windsor and his wife were also famous for having many lovely pugs.
In Hollywood, George Clooney, and in the fashion world, Valentino are known for
loving pugs.

その他にもウインザー公夫妻もパグ好きで有名でした。
芸能界では、ジョージ・クルーニー、ファッション界では
ヴァレンティーノなどがパグ好きで有名ですネ。

This is my adorable pug, Chai, and he is my second pug. "Pug" in Latin means a "fist"
because their wrinkly face resembles a fist apparently. Pugs are smart, shrewed and
extremely charming. My pug is fawn color, and since the black pugs were bred in
Japan I may want to have a black one some day!

これは私の愛犬チャイ。２匹目のパグです。
パグはラテン語で「拳」を意味するそうで、シワで
くしゃっとした顔が、拳に似ているから、、と言われて
います。頭が良くてずる賢くて愛嬌たっぷりのパグ。
チャイはフォーン色ですが、黒いパグは日本でブリード
されたそう。いつか黒いパグもほしいなあ～

Pugo de Mayo 〜パゴ・デ・マヨ〜

Cinco de Mayo means "Fifth of May" in Spanish, and it's a celebration of the Mexico's victory over France on May 5th in 1862. We went to the "Pugo de Mayo," a large pug gathering that is held annually in Del Mar. Our pug, Chai partied hard with a Mexican hat and a poncho!


「チンコ・デ・マヨ」とはスペイン語で「５月５日」という意味。
この日は１８６２年にメキシコがフランスとの戦争に勝った日
で、今日になってもお祭りの日となっています。私たちは
毎年開催されるパグ犬の集まり「パゴ・デ・マヨ」に参加
して来ました。私のパグ犬チャイも、メキシカンハットと
ポンチョでバッチリ決めましたよ！

 There were a few hundred of pugs that were all dressed up in colorful costumes. This bunny pug was a 13 yrs-old madame, and
still very, very charming!


色とりどりの衣装を着た（着せられて？）パグたちが
数百匹いました。このバニーパグは１３歳のマダム。
まだまだチャーミングだこと！

 This framboyant orange & yellow frilled dress stole the show, I must say... The owner of this pug was quite dramatic, too ;p

このオレンジ＆イエローのフリフリドレスは凄かった。
飼い主の女性も負けないくらい凄かったです。

This lovely pug is Sora, my friend's female pug. She is so popular everywhere she goes... It was overwhelming to see so many pugs that looked just like our pug. If they all took off their colors and I.D. tags it's quite possible that we all might take the wrong ones home with us!
 
この可愛いパグは、私の友人のパグ、ソラちゃん。
どこに行ってもモテモテです。それにしても、うちの
チャイにそっくりなパグがいたいた！首輪もタグも
全て取り外したパグたちが勢揃いしたら、うっかり他の
パグを家に連れて帰ってしまいそう、、、！笑

Art of "Merde" Part 2 チャイのウンチアートその２

This pug peeing standing is not my pug, Chai, but Chai pees and poos just like that. I've been trying to photograph him to prove it to you, but every time I try to catch him with my camera he stops doing his magical style. He must be a bit shy. Anyway, trust me, I am not lying!

この逆立ちをしながらオシッコしているパグは私のパグ、チャイではありませんが、チャイもこのような格好でオシッコ＆ウンチをします。皆さんに信じてもらうために、いつもカメラを構えているのですが、カメラを向けるとすぐにチャイはこのスタイルを止めてしまうんです。これでも一応恥ずかしいのかなあ、、。でも、ほんとですヨ！嘘なんかついてませんよ〜！

Since then, Chai has been polishing his skill to bring his art into the next level. His "merde" has been put up much higher than ever before!

この「ウンチアート」については昨年８月にこのブログでも書きましたが、あれからチャイは一層磨きをかけています。アートを次のレベルに持って行こうとしているみたい。この作品も、過去よりさらに高い位置に成功！



Today he managed to create a beautiful piece right on the cactus. Not only that... when you look at it carefully his "merde" has a fascinating shape...! Do you see what I see?!? lol
Chai has become a serious artist. Now he is almost 3 years old, and he is no longer a child. It's about time that he makes his own living... with his organic & natural creation!

今日はカクタスの上に美しい作品を創作しました。それだけじゃありません、、よく見ると何か興味深い形をしていませんか？笑　チャイはシリアスな芸術家になりつつあるようです。もうすぐ３歳。もう子供じゃないですね。そろそろ自立しないと、、、そう、オーガニックでナチュラルな創造でね！

Art of "Merde" チャイのウンチアート

My pug, Chai has many talents. Let's see... He's good at barking when the door bell rings, finding crap to eat on the streets, sleeping all day, stealing my food and many more! (hahaha~) However, one of his outstanding talents is this: he can poop high. When he does the number two, he stands on his front legs as if he does a head-stand, sticks his butt high against a tree, wall, etc. and then does his business. Sometimes his poop stays up there, sometimes not. This habit began about a year ago, and since many people thought it's "far-out!" I've started to photograph them, and now I have so many photos of his "art of merde." (See the big piece in the middle of the green trees... and a little piece on the bottom.)

私のパグ犬チャイは色んな才能を持っています。ええと、まずはネ、、。ドアベルが鳴ると吠えるし、路上のゴミを見つけて食べちゃうこと、一日中寝ること、、私の食べ物を盗み食いすること、、、もっと沢山ありますよ〜（はっはっは〜）。でも、その中でも特に秀でた才能はこれ。高いところにウンチすることです。チャイはウンチをする時に、逆立ちするように前足で立ってお尻を空中に突き出して、壁や木など高いところでウンチをするんです。ウンチは高い場所で残る時もあるし、落ちる時もあります。このクセは去年くらいから始まって、多くの人たちが「すご〜い！」と褒めてくれるものですから、得意になった私は写真を撮り始めたんです。今ではもう沢山の数の「チャイのウンチアート」写真ががたまりました。（上の写真、木々の間のウンチが見えますか？下にもちょこっと、、）





This one was really high. Can you see the piece on the tree, and again, a little piece on the bottom.

これは、木の高い位置に成功。ちょっと見にくいかも知れませんが、木にくっついたウンチ見えますか？そして下の木のふもとにも、、。



This one was on a fence. He managed to leave a piece up there and another piece on the bottom!

これは柵の上。よくできましたねえ！下にもちょっと落ちちゃったけど。



This one is not on a high place, but I had to show it to you. I call it, "A Bird's Nest." He managed to put two pieces together next to each other surrounded by lovely yellow dandelions! You may be wondering if I replace them. No way! That would be cheating, and I wouldn't wast my time doing such a thing. Obviously, Chai has this special talent. As an artist myself I will encourage and support his gifted talent... for what? To bring more joy to the world, of course!

これは高い位置ではありませんが、皆さんにお見せしたかったんです。「鳥の巣」と呼ぶことにした作品。チャイはウンチ２欠片を見事に並べました。しかもタンポポもまわりにある！もしかしたら皆さんは「きっと理麻さんが、並べ替えているに違いない、、」と思っているかも知れませんね。でも、そんなことしたら、ズルになりますし、私はそんなことする暇はありません〜！どう見ても、チャイは特別の才能を持っているのです。私もアーティストなので、彼の才能を応援して行きたいと思います、、。何のためにって？もちろん、この世にもっと喜びを生むことにです！

My daily walk with Chai チャイとの散歩道

I walk my pug, Chai twice a day at 1pm and 5pm, and my husband walks him twice a day, too, at 7am and 9pm. I enjoy walking on the different streets to see the lovely local buildings and houses. This charming church is one block away from our place, but strangely I have never seen people going in there!

パグ犬のチャイと毎日２回、午後１時と５時にお散歩します。私の旦那さんも一日２回、朝の７時と夜の９時にチャイとお散歩。いつも違う道を歩いて近所のステキな建物やお家を見るのが楽しみになっています。これは私の家からワンブロック先にある教会。でも不思議と人が出入りしているのを見たこと無いのです！



This cute house with funny looking trees is also one block away from our place. I think that it would be a perfect atelier for me...

この可愛らしいお家と何とも言えない形の木も、私の家からワンブロック先にあります。この建物はアトリエにぴったりかも、、。




Everyday I find something new. Chai is usually looking down trying to find anything to eat. I usually look up, look right, left, and then up again..., and see what I found the other day. A beautiful angel!

毎日、新しいことを発見します。チャイはいつも何か食べれるものはないかと下ばかり見て歩いていますが、私は上を見て、左、右、そしてまた上を見て、、。そう、それでこの間なにをみつけたと思いますか？美しい天使です！

The Dalai Lama and dogs ダライラマと犬たち

I love dogs, and I love the fact that the Dalai Lama, my most respected one, loves dogs, too. One can tell from this photo above that he is very natural with dogs - the way he holds the dog is so gentle and comfortable. The dog seems to be very fond of him, too. I believe that this is not his dog. However, those Tibetan Apsos (photo below) were his dogs. How cute they were!




犬が大好きな私です。最も尊敬する人物、ダライラマ法王も犬が大好きという事実も大好き。この上の写真から、ダライラマ法王は犬ととても自然に対応できることが分かりますね。犬の抱き方は優しいしリラックスしています。上の写真の犬は彼の犬ではないはずですが、下の写真２匹のチベタンアプソはそうです。なんてキュート！



I heard that His Holiness was very sad after those dogs passed away. So ever since after his pets' death, he never named other dogs that he had adopted.... to avoid attachment.

最愛の犬たちが亡くなった後、ダライラマ法王はとても悲しかったそうです。それ以来、犬をアダプトしても決して名前をつけることをしませんでした。ペットに名前をつけると情がより湧くからです。



This is a portrait of his late dog that I had painted, an old German shepherd that he had adopted in order to save him from being killed. I offered this piece to the Dalai Lama as a gift.

この犬の肖像画は、彼の亡くなった犬、ジャーマンシェパードの絵です。殺されそうになっているこの老犬を、ダライラマ法王はアダプトしたのでした。この絵はダライラマ法王へプレゼントしました。


This "meditating" dog is my pug, Chai Tandoori. Pugs come from Tibet and Japan originally, and they were monastery dogs in the 11th Century in Tibet. I have a special thing for pugs. Perhaps I was a pug in Tibet in my past lives! lol I know that Chai wants to have a brother... maybe in a few years I will get him a nice Tibetan apso named "Maccha" (green tea). Chai, would you like that?

この「瞑想する」ワン子は、私のパグのチャイ・タンドリです。パグはもともとチベットと日本の犬です。１１世紀のチベットでは、パグは主にお寺で飼われていました。私はパグに特別の思い入れがあるようです。きっと前世でパグだったのでしょう。笑　チャイはどうやら弟がほしいようです。そうね、あと２、３年したら、可愛いチベタンアプソでも飼ってあげようかな。名前は「まっちゃ（抹茶）」にしようか。どう思う、チャイ？
