Art of "Merde"

My pug, Chai has many talents. Let's see... He's good at barking when the door bell rings, finding crap to eat on the streets, sleeping all day, stealing my food and many more! (hahaha~) However, one of his outstanding talents is this: he can poop high. When he does the number two, he stands on his front legs as if he does a head-stand, sticks his butt high against a tree, wall, etc. and then does his business. Sometimes his poop stays up there, sometimes not. This habit began about a year ago, and since many people thought it's "far-out!" I've started to photograph them, and now I have so many photos of his "art of merde." (See the big piece in the middle of the green trees... and a little piece on the bottom.)

This one was really high. Can you see the piece on the tree, and again, a little piece on the bottom.

This one was on a fence. He managed to leave a piece up there and another piece on the bottom!

This one is not on a high place, but I had to show it to you. I call it, "A Bird's Nest." He managed to put two pieces together next to each other surrounded by lovely yellow dandelions! You may be wondering if I replace them. No way! That would be cheating, and I wouldn't wast my time doing such a thing. Obviously, Chai has this special talent. As an artist myself I will encourage and support his gifted talent... for what? To bring more joy to the world, of course!

My daily walk with Chai

I walk my pug, Chai twice a day at 1pm and 5pm, and my husband walks him twice a day, too, at 7am and 9pm. I enjoy walking on the different streets to see the lovely local buildings and houses. This charming church is one block away from our place, but strangely I have never seen people going in there!

This cute house with funny looking trees is also one block away from our place. I think that it would be a perfect atelier for me...

Everyday I find something new. Chai is usually looking down trying to find anything to eat. I usually look up, look right, left, and then up again..., and see what I found the other day. A beautiful angel!

When I saw this photo that someone had posted in facebook I couldn't believe that it was a real photo. It is just too beautiful. However, this is how Tibet has been and still is... well, not any longer.

For centuries the Tibetans have lived harmoniously with nature. They've honored the nature because without it they wouldn't be able to survive.

However, this beautifully balanced-life in Tibet is disappearing. The nomads are forced into the modern life style, the vast land has been destroyed for minerals, and too many trees have been cut off. Global warming is melting the glaciers that's creating floods, and deforestation is also the cause of the endless mudslides. This monk was recently arrested by the Chinese government for no reasons, and no one knows where he is.

Miracle in Sedona

I promised my blog readers earlier to share my fascinating experience in Sedona. It was so powerful that I needed some time to process it. So this is what happened: One day my husband and I went on a "spiritual tour" with this wonderful guide, Linda. We hired her because I wanted to learn about the vortexes, and she was an expert.

Linda was a woman of an amazing positive, soothing and warm energy, and we liked her right away. While driving to the vortexes she told us that she had already felt our energies and seen our aura colors in her visions on the way to the hotel to pick us up. I was being skeptical, but her description of my husband was pretty accurate, and he was very much impressed by her ability. However, I was not looking for a psychic or someone who would tell me about my future. I was just really interested in learning about the vortexes.

Linda took us to a few vortexes. At each vortex spot she made us pick a rock, sit on it and meditate. At the second vortex, a vortex called, Katchina Woman, three of us were sitting on a stone bench together, and meditating. It was quiet, peaceful and I was not feeling any particular emotions or thoughts at all. It was just lovely. My left arm and left leg began tingling. (Left is feminine energy.)

All of a sudden, Linda got up, stood behind me and put her left hand on by back (around the fourth chakra), and start singing. Needless to say that I was surprised! Feeling a bit awkward, and didn't quite know what to do, so I did not move. The next thing I knew - tears began to roll down. One drop, two drops, three, four... then, I was crying loud like a baby!

I really didn't know what had happened. I was not sad at all. I still don't know why I started crying. "These things happen here, " Linda said to me with a kind smile. Apparently my heart opened. I'm certain that Linda's warmth triggered it. The funny thing is that I did not go to Sedona looking for such a powerful experience. Yet it happened to me. So what can I say? I must say that Sedona brings miracles to people!

Recent memorable dishes

I live to eat. I love food and eat well. I am a fussy eater... or at least I care about what I eat. This dish was so tasty at the Arizona Biltimore Hotel in Phoenix. Yes, it is a Caesar salad, and not with the classic romaine lettuce..., but with celery! Different and good.

This flaxseed and pumpkin seed raw crackers were addictive, and we ended up going to Choco Tree every day while we were in Sedona. We even bought a lot to take them to the hike with us.

One of my favorite cafes in Hillcrest, San Diego is Chocolat. Their main restaurant is in Milan, and they serve wonderful Italian dishes. (Oh, for some reasons they serve French crepes, but who cares!) This is the sheep milk mozzarella cheese, and it melts in your mouth... awww...

Then this one. Yes, it's tiramisu. I don't really like tiramisu, but this one at Cuccina Urbana, one of the top Italian restaurants in San Diego came in a lovely chilled glass jar, and it was just fine. The chocolate cookies were perfectly bitter to accompany the sweet tiramisu. There are many other noteworthy dishes... to be continued!

Tibetan Baby Shower

Throughout my entire life I'd never been to a baby shower before, and I was finally invited to one yesterday... by a Tibetan friend. My husband who was also invited said, "No way!," thinking that it would be only women gathering eating cakes and gossiping. "It will be different, honey. It's a Tibetan style," I told him. So we went to the beautiful Coronado Park right by the water where the shower was held.

There was a table for gifts, and there were pretty gift bags lined up. Since I had no ideas about the baby stuff I brought a gift certificate for the expected Tibetan mom, so that she can buy anything she wants.

There were about 15 of us - all Tibetan except my husband and me. Tibetan men played soccer on the grass, and the women sat around and joked. There were so much yummy food on the table! I was craving for Tibetan food - sha palee (photo: beef patty), vegetable momo (dumplings), radish salad, shokokattsa (sauteed spicy potatoes) and more and more...!

After stuffing ourselves a huge cake was waiting for us. The expected mom said that she had baked it - this cake made with taro potatoes. I was so impressed, and told her that she was an all-mighty woman. She smiled and said, "Rima la, I am joking!" Tibetans always joke. It is a part of their characters, and they never forget a sense of humor.

So we spent the entire afternoon eating, sipping chai, laying around on the grass and laughing. Having to attend my first baby shower I became very curious about this tradition. Apparently some countries have baby showers - India, China, Germany, Brazil, England... Originally it was a women's gathering to give wisdom and advice to the expected mother. In America it's become more of a gift giving event (yeah, right, a typical materialistic American custom!) In Germany men get together and drink beer (typical, too!) "Shower" means to shower the new mom with gifts. And for the German fathers you shower them with beer! lol

It was a lovely baby shower, indeed, and I'm happy that my first baby shower experience was with my wonderful Tibetan friends :)

Ethiopian cuisine

In Hillcrest where we live there are all sorts of restaurants including an Ethiopian cuisine. The first time I ever tasted the Ethiopian food was a few years ago in SoHo, New York. My husband one day said to me, "Let's go have some spongy bread." The sound of "spongy bread" intrigued me so much that I agreed to go... however, I did not have any expectations from the Ethiopian food. Then I was wrong. It was surprisingly delicious! I loved the "spongy bread," called "Injera." It has a sour taste because the bread dough is fermented.

So we went to our local one. I loved the extra large plate, too. On a large injera there was stew, chickpeas, vegetables... Everything was so tasty, and eating with my hands was fun, too. I really prayed that people in Ethiopia can eat well, too.
