Laduree New York

I love Laduree in Paris and I love Laduree in Tokyo. The one in New York, however, is the hard one to know since I have not had a chance to get in. Every time I go there there is a very long waiting line outside, and I give up. At least I try to take a shop photo, and there is a line to do that, too!

The people who are lined up are all Chinese in stylish and chic attires. Those hip young Chinese remind me of the Japanese in the 80's and the 90's when the Japanese economy was booming. Yes, it was the era that the Japanese shopped everywhere in the world!

All the high-end brand stores and top restaurants in New York are filled with the Chinese in today. They are loud everywhere and poor mannered... that makes me feel so nervous to be around them. Yet, I believe that we, the Japanese were the same way back in the 80's, and I am sure that we were judged, criticized and laughed by the world. That makes me feel more compassionate towards the nouveau riche Chinese ;p
