Early summer shopping 初夏のショッピング

New York! Shopping has to be done in New York, especially in NoLita where you can find many unique boutiques. Since I have no interest in famous major brands I much prefer NoLita than Fifth Avenue for shopping. This shop in the photo is Matta - one of my favorites!

Well, these are my original "Rima Bags" that were produced by Isetan, Tokyo ten years ago. They were limited-edition series, and I think that they only made five each. Needless to say that they were sold out in a few minutes! When I design bags in a near future I won't be using any animal leather, and will use only eco-conscious
materials, and that is for sure!

確か５個づつしか作らなかったはず、、。あっという間に
完売でした～！またいつかバッグを作るとしたら、
動物の皮は使わず、エココンシャスのものを作りますヨ！

Only in New York... さすがのNYもビックリ！

I lived in New York for 33 years, but never saw anything like this... Wow.
This photo was sent to me via facebook yesterday from my girl friend in
New York. Her behavior is hard to be justified in any ways, but there was
a part of me that wanted to support her... I mean, look at her eyes! She is
very serious about chopping the onions!!! I really wonder what she was chopping
the onions for... ;p

３３年以上ニューヨークに住みましたが、さすがに
これは見なかったなあ～。ふ～う、凄い！絶句。
きのうフェイスブックでNYの友人から送られて来た
ショットです。衛生面や常識を考えても、とんでも
ない行動なのですが、この女性の必死な眼差しを
見ていると、つい応援したくなってしまった私でした
、、。笑　でも一体どうしたんでしょうね～？！？

Fragrance of New York ニューヨークの香

I love perfumes. I've been buying perfumes since I was a little child. My favorites are always floral rather than musk, and I must say that the Lily of the Valley is my forever number one. However, I've gone "organic" several years ago, therefore I stopped buying perfumes. Now I only use good quality organic essential oils on my body. Unfortunately, most perfumes contain alcohol and lots of chemicals, and they are not good for your body. Yet, there is a store in NYC I enjoy going - Bond 09. I used to buy their perfumes, and I still adore their fragrance and their beautiful window display!

香水が大好きです。子供の頃からお小遣いで香水を買っていました。ムスク系よりフローラル派の私の永遠のフェヴァレイトは、「すずらん」の香です。でも、数年前に「オーガニック」宣言をして、体につけるもの、体内に入れるもの全てをオーガニックにして以来、香水を買わなくなりました。今はずっと良質のオーガニックエッセンシャルオイルを愛用しています。残念ながら香水にはアルコールやケミカルが沢山含まれているし、体には良いと思えませんしネ、、。でも、ニューヨークでは見るために必ず立ち寄るのが、ボンド０９。いつもここの香水を買っていた私は、未だにここの香と美しいウインドウディスプレイが大好きです！

Lights of Hope 希望の光

These stunning blue beams lit towards the sky infinitely on 9.11. This beautiful photo was taken by my dear friend, Tomo who was truly there for me during that horrifying period in New York. I lived on West Broadway and Broome St, and Tomo on Thompson and Prince St. We checked on each other every day making sure that we stayed sane. One night while I was having a panic attack she called me and said, "Are you all right? Do you want me to come over and spend the night there if you are scared?" This caring gesture from a friend made me feel so much better, and I survived that night alone. I will never forget her kindness.

今年の９月１１日、この美しい青い光は天へ向かって果てしなく輝きました。この写真は、私の仲良しのトモさんが撮った一枚。あの恐ろしいNYでの時期に、彼女は私を支えてくれました。当時私は、ソーホーのウエストブロードウエイとブルームストリートに住んでいて、トモさんは、トンプソンとプリンスストリート。近い私たちは、毎日電話をし合って、お互いに気がふれてないかをチェックし合いました。9.11の翌日あたり、私はパニック状態になりそうになっていると、彼女が電話をくれました。「大丈夫？怖かったら泊まりに行こうか？」と優しく言ってくれたのです。友人の温かい言葉を聞いて、少し気が楽になった私は、独りでその夜を過ごすことができたのでした。彼女の親切は一生忘れません。




As I watched the towers collapse with my own eyes in that morning of 9.11 those horrible
images are still so vivid today, and I have had many nightmares for some years. However,
on the 10th anniversary of 9.11 I really wanted to be in New York. It's my home, and I love
New York more than any other places in the world. This photo was taken by my friend, Emily
whom I've known since 13 years old. The beams seem expanding towards the sky as if it's healing the world.

タワーが崩れる瞬間をずっと肉眼で見ていた私は、あのぞっとする映像が未だに鮮やかに頭に焼き付いていて、数年にわたって沢山の悪夢を見ました。でも、９／１１の１０周年には、ニューヨークにいたかった私です。私のホームであるニューヨーク。世界中のどこよりも好きな街。この一枚は、１３歳からの友人エミリーが撮った一枚です。私には、光が空にむかって広がって、まるでこの世を癒しているように見えました。



Then, a few days later after 9.11 the Harvest Moon came to us. Needless to say it was unbelievably beautiful, and I watched it for a long time from my window. I was really down that day, and passing my bed time, I still could not sleep. So I worked on the final proof-reading on my upcoming book, "Save the Himalaya." Then, surprisingly, I found a huge fatal mistake that I had not noticed for 6 months! Coincidence? Maybe..., but I thanked the Moon very much. I certainly had to! The Moon gave me power, courage and energy... I even felt the sense of healing. I prayed for the world peace and for our Earth and the Universe, and headed to sleep.

そして、３日後に、中秋の名月（ハーベストムーン）が姿を見せてくれました。信じられないほど美しかったことは言うまでもありませんネ。私は窓から何時間も、この満月を見つめていました。その日は落ち込んでいて、ベッドタイムが来ても眠れません。なので、もうすぐ出版される絵本「不思議な冒険」のファイナル校正チェックをすることにしたのです。月の光の下で校正を読んでいると、信じられないことが、、。半年間、誰もきづかなかった致命的なミスを発見したのです！偶然かもしれません。でも私はお月さまに感謝しました。満月は、私にパワー、勇気、そしてエネルギーを与えてくれました、、そして、癒された気持ちさえしたんです。そんな夜、私は世界の平和と、地球と宇宙のためにお祈りをして、眠りにつきました。

In New York Again...! 再びニューヨークに！

Yap, I am back again! The highlights of my stay this time are: my friend Emily's big wedding in Tribecca- Emily and I went to a prep school in New York together; then, I'll attend a private art auction event that I am helping with... to raise funds for the Tibetan Community Center. The celebrity chef, Eric Ripert will provide the goodies; also, I have a very important meeting for my work... which I will announce when it's ready! I feel great in New York. I just love it here so much... after all, it is my home.



またニューヨークです。今回の滞在のハイライトは、NYの進学学校時代の友人エミリーのビッグウエディング。それからチベタンコミュニティセンターのためのプライベートアートオークションイベントに出席するため。私もお手伝いしているのですが、私の友人でセレブシェフのエリック・リペール（ル・ベルナルダンのオーナーシェフ）が、ご馳走を提供してくれます。あとは、大事な仕事のミーティング。これはまた後で報告しますね！とにかくニューヨークにいると幸せな私。やっぱり育った故郷ですもんネ、、。

The Rooftop at the Met. メトロポリタン美術館の屋上

I lived in New York for 33 years, and I never knew about this gorgeous rooftop at the Metropolitan Museum of Art! Guess how I found out about this... my tourist friend from Vienna told me! lol So my dear friend Karin from Vienna (who told me about this roof) and I went there
on a sunny day in New York. The view was spectacular, and I felt nostalgic when I could see my parent's old apartment building on Central Park South. Those days when my parents lived in NYC bring me the best memories. I really miss having my parents near me... Well, who knows? Perhaps we will all live in NYC again!

ニューヨークに３３年も住んだにも関わらず、メトロポリタン美術館の屋上のことを知らなかった私です。なんと観光客としてNYに来ていたウイーンの私の親友カリンが教えてくれました。笑　早速、私たちはNYの久々の晴れの日に、行ってみました。スペクタキュラーな眺め！かつて私の両親が住んでいたセントラルパークサウスのアパートも良く見えて、なんとも懐かしかったです。両親が近くに住んでいた頃が、最高の思い出です。今でも両親が近くに住んでいたら良いなあといつも思います、、。さあ、でも分かりませんネ。又いつの日か、皆で一緒にNYに暮らせるかも！？

New York ~ NoLita~ ニューヨーク、ノリータ

It was raining so heavily in New York, but it did not stop me from going downtown. I lived in SoHo for 15 years, then in NoLita for 4 years, so I could not wait to go there. I hopped in the subway and got off at Bleeker Street. It was so nice to be in NoLita visiting all my favorite places and say hello. There were some new stores and restaurants. Soooo good to be home!!!

ニューヨークは豪雨でしたが、ダウンタウンへとすぐに向かいました。ソーホーに１５年、ノリータに４年住んだ私はやっぱりここが良い。地下鉄に乗ってブリーカーストリートで降りました。ノリータの大好きなショップやレストランに行って挨拶をするのが楽しかったです。沢山新しいお店もできていました。う〜ん、やっぱり戻って来たって感じで幸せ！



And of course I stopped at Balthazar, one of my favorite, favorite restaurants in downtown. When they first opened this legendary place I was invited to to the opening. It was such a scene... everyone was there! I saw every single super model, famous designers, movie stars and oh my god, everyone was there. Many years have passed, but it is still a very special place! *To be continued...*

そして、もちろんバルタザールにも行きましたよ。ダウンタウンで私のフェバレート。かつて、この伝説的なレストランのオープニングナイトに招待されて行った私でした。もうそれはそれは凄い顔ぶれでした！当時のスーパーモデルはみんないた。有名デザイナーたち、映画スターたちもワンサカ。あんなに一度にレセブを見たのは初めてでした。あれからもう長年の月日が経った今でも、とってもステキなブラッセリーです！＊続く、、＊

Back to New York! 再びニューヨークへ

I am off to New York City soon. I am going home... my sweet home! It's been 10 months since I left for beautiful SoCal, and I've thought about New York every single day. I miss it so much that I can feel it as if I am there when I close my eyes. New York is extraordinary. There is no such a place on Earth like the Big Apple! What am I going to do there? Easy. Shop, eat, shop, eat and shop. Oh, and the museums, of course. Oh, and seeing my friends, of course!

もうすぐニューヨークへ発ちます。お家へ返るんです。スイートホームへ！この美しい楽園南カリフォルニアに移って１０ヶ月。毎日ニューヨークのことを思い出さない日はありませんでした。恋しくなれば目をつむると、まるでそこに自分がいるように感じるんです。NYは特別の街。こんな場所は他にありません！NYで何をするのかって？答えは簡単。ショッピング、食べる、ショッピング、食べる。そしてまたショッピング。あ、そうそう美術館巡りも。あ、そうそう、もちろん友人たちとの再会も楽しみ〜！ああ、友達と言えば私の弟みたいな桐島ローランド君もちょうど同じ時期にNY。でもお互い忙しいので会えるかなあ〜。




I lived on West Broadway in SoHo for 15 years, then in NoLita for 4 years after that. NoLita was right next to the Little Italy, and I used pass this Italian deli everyday to enjoy their beautiful home made pasta display in the window. There are so many great restaurants in NYC, and I am definitely going to dine at my friend chef Eric Ripert's Le Bernardin, the best restaurant in NYC. Too bad that Eric won't be in NYC so I will miss him... Also at my old hang out places such as, Balthazar, Hampton Chutney, NoHo Star, Jackson Diner, Babbo, Turkish Kitchen and so on! And for shopping, I will check out all those small independent stores in NoLita and SoHo. Barbara Bui, one of my favorite designer, Reinstein & Ross, my favorite jewelry shop where my wedding & engagement rings come from, INA, Selima's... just to name a few.

私はソーホーのウエストブロードウエイのロフトに１５年、その後ノリータに４年住みました。ノリータはリトルイタリーの真横なので、毎日のように、この手作りパスタのウインドウディスプレイが美しいイタリアンデリの前を通ったものです。NYには素晴らしいレストランがわんさか。絶対に行く予定をしているのが、友人のセレブシェフ、エリック・リペールのル・ベルナルダン。ちょうどエリックはNYにいないので会えないのが残念。そして私が通い続けたフェバレイト：バルタザー、ハンプトンチャトニー、ノーホースター、ジャクソンダイナー（クイーンズ）、バブ、ターキッシュキッチン、、。
そしてショッピングは、ノリータやソーホーのショップ。大好きなバーバラブイ、結婚＆婚約指輪をお願いしたラインスタイン＆ロスという美しい宝石店。イナ、セリマ、、、をはじめ、まだいっぱいあります。



This intersection of Prince St. and Broadway was my daily walk. I can still smell the smoke from the street vendor at that corner. I shall stop at Dean & DeLuca to get some tea and a Planet Doughnut... or perhaps icy cold cardamon coffee at the Hampton Chutney instead... or perhaps both...

このプリンス通りとブロードウエイの交差点は、私の毎日のお散歩ルートでした。角の屋台の煙の臭いが今でもするくらいです。ディーンアンドデルーカで、紅茶とプラネットドーナッツでも買おうかな。それか、ハンムトンチャトニーの冷た〜いカルダモンコーヒーが良いかな。この際、両方にしようかな、、、




And believe or not, I cannot wait to take the subway! No, I am not kidding. I miss the subways. I am so happy that I do not have to drive anywhere and I can just hop into the subway! New York, New York, here I come. Get ready for the hurricane Rima!

そして信じられないことに、地下鉄に乗るのが待ち遠しいんです！冗談じゃありませんよ。マジで地下鉄が恋しい。ニューヨークでは車の運転をせずに、どこからでも地下鉄に乗れるのがたまりません！ニューヨークよ、もうすぐ行きますぞ。台風リーマにご用事！
