The Rooftop at the Met. メトロポリタン美術館の屋上

I lived in New York for 33 years, and I never knew about this gorgeous rooftop at the Metropolitan Museum of Art! Guess how I found out about this... my tourist friend from Vienna told me! lol So my dear friend Karin from Vienna (who told me about this roof) and I went there
on a sunny day in New York. The view was spectacular, and I felt nostalgic when I could see my parent's old apartment building on Central Park South. Those days when my parents lived in NYC bring me the best memories. I really miss having my parents near me... Well, who knows? Perhaps we will all live in NYC again!

ニューヨークに３３年も住んだにも関わらず、メトロポリタン美術館の屋上のことを知らなかった私です。なんと観光客としてNYに来ていたウイーンの私の親友カリンが教えてくれました。笑　早速、私たちはNYの久々の晴れの日に、行ってみました。スペクタキュラーな眺め！かつて私の両親が住んでいたセントラルパークサウスのアパートも良く見えて、なんとも懐かしかったです。両親が近くに住んでいた頃が、最高の思い出です。今でも両親が近くに住んでいたら良いなあといつも思います、、。さあ、でも分かりませんネ。又いつの日か、皆で一緒にNYに暮らせるかも！？

New York ~ Nolita2~ NY〜ノリータ２〜

I've been going back to NoLita again and again because it is my favorite area in New York. I lived in NoLita for four years, and I truly enjoyed it. Jamin Puech is one of my favorite bag designers, and I love his big shop. He used to have a small one near my apartment.

またノリータに来てしまいました。何度も何度も！だってこのエリアがNYで一番好きなんです。ノリータには４年程住み、最高に楽しかったです。ジャマン・ピュエッシュは私が一番好きなバッグデザイナーですが、彼のこの新しいお店はステキ。以前は小さなショップが我が家の近くにあったものです。



I want all his bags! It's hard to choose!　彼のバッグ、全部ほしい！選ぶのがたいへん、、。




This Cupcake shop is new to me. I cannot remember what was here before... the shop looks so pretty, so I went in to check it out. As its name it was all about the cupcakes. I hate cupcakes so I just left!

このカップケークのお店は新しい。以前ここに何があったのか思い出せません、、。なんとも可愛いお店なので、つい入ってみると、中はカップケークだらけ。カップケークが嫌いな私はすぐに出てしまいました。

Then I headed towards Hampton Chutney - my favorite lunch stop. I used to have dosa or utapam here every week. They also make very tasty cardamon coffee which I enjoyed today. Oh, it is soooo good to be back in NoLita!

そして私が向かったのは、ハンムトンチャトニー。私が大好きなランチスポット。ここでドサやウタパムを毎週のように食べたものです。そしてここのカルダモンコーヒーは美味しいですよ。
今日はそれを飲みました。あ〜ノリータに戻って来て嬉しい！

New York ~ Jackson Diner, Queens NYジャクソンダイナー

I could not wait to go to Jackson Diner in Queens to have my favorite Indian lunch. This restaurant may not be the best Indian food, but I just love the whole package - it's in Jackson Heights that I enjoy a lot and all waiters know me very well there. My best friend Liz and I usually have lunch here, and then check out all those little shops on the street. The lunch was great - the tandoori chicken, chick pea pakora, mint naan, masala dosa, mango lassi... it was perfect.

クイーンズ地区にあるジャクソンダイナーに行くのが待ちきれませんでした。ここはインド料理のベストではないかも知れないけれど、すべてのパッケージが好きなんです：大好きなインド人街にあって、ウエイターは皆顔見知り。親友リズと私はいつもここでランチをしてから、まわりのお店を全部チェックして廻ります。ランチは美味しかった。タンドリチキン、ひよこ豆のパコラ、マサラドサ、マンゴーラッシ、、。完璧です。



Then, at the end we always order the masala chai. The waiter always reminds me, "It will take a while, OK?" They cook the milk tea into boil to bring out the flavor. "Of course!" I say. It is worth waiting because it is so good. I will come back here again soon :)

そして、いつも通り、しめはチャイ。ウエイターは毎回のように「時間かかるけどオーケー？」と念を押します。ミルクティーを沸騰させてコクを出すのに時間がかかるからです。「もちろんよ！」と、私。待つ甲斐があるんだもの、、。それくらい美味しいのです。またすぐ来ちゃうかも。笑

New York ~ NoLita~ ニューヨーク、ノリータ

It was raining so heavily in New York, but it did not stop me from going downtown. I lived in SoHo for 15 years, then in NoLita for 4 years, so I could not wait to go there. I hopped in the subway and got off at Bleeker Street. It was so nice to be in NoLita visiting all my favorite places and say hello. There were some new stores and restaurants. Soooo good to be home!!!

ニューヨークは豪雨でしたが、ダウンタウンへとすぐに向かいました。ソーホーに１５年、ノリータに４年住んだ私はやっぱりここが良い。地下鉄に乗ってブリーカーストリートで降りました。ノリータの大好きなショップやレストランに行って挨拶をするのが楽しかったです。沢山新しいお店もできていました。う〜ん、やっぱり戻って来たって感じで幸せ！



And of course I stopped at Balthazar, one of my favorite, favorite restaurants in downtown. When they first opened this legendary place I was invited to to the opening. It was such a scene... everyone was there! I saw every single super model, famous designers, movie stars and oh my god, everyone was there. Many years have passed, but it is still a very special place! *To be continued...*

そして、もちろんバルタザールにも行きましたよ。ダウンタウンで私のフェバレート。かつて、この伝説的なレストランのオープニングナイトに招待されて行った私でした。もうそれはそれは凄い顔ぶれでした！当時のスーパーモデルはみんないた。有名デザイナーたち、映画スターたちもワンサカ。あんなに一度にレセブを見たのは初めてでした。あれからもう長年の月日が経った今でも、とってもステキなブラッセリーです！＊続く、、＊

Back to New York! 再びニューヨークへ

I am off to New York City soon. I am going home... my sweet home! It's been 10 months since I left for beautiful SoCal, and I've thought about New York every single day. I miss it so much that I can feel it as if I am there when I close my eyes. New York is extraordinary. There is no such a place on Earth like the Big Apple! What am I going to do there? Easy. Shop, eat, shop, eat and shop. Oh, and the museums, of course. Oh, and seeing my friends, of course!

もうすぐニューヨークへ発ちます。お家へ返るんです。スイートホームへ！この美しい楽園南カリフォルニアに移って１０ヶ月。毎日ニューヨークのことを思い出さない日はありませんでした。恋しくなれば目をつむると、まるでそこに自分がいるように感じるんです。NYは特別の街。こんな場所は他にありません！NYで何をするのかって？答えは簡単。ショッピング、食べる、ショッピング、食べる。そしてまたショッピング。あ、そうそう美術館巡りも。あ、そうそう、もちろん友人たちとの再会も楽しみ〜！ああ、友達と言えば私の弟みたいな桐島ローランド君もちょうど同じ時期にNY。でもお互い忙しいので会えるかなあ〜。




I lived on West Broadway in SoHo for 15 years, then in NoLita for 4 years after that. NoLita was right next to the Little Italy, and I used pass this Italian deli everyday to enjoy their beautiful home made pasta display in the window. There are so many great restaurants in NYC, and I am definitely going to dine at my friend chef Eric Ripert's Le Bernardin, the best restaurant in NYC. Too bad that Eric won't be in NYC so I will miss him... Also at my old hang out places such as, Balthazar, Hampton Chutney, NoHo Star, Jackson Diner, Babbo, Turkish Kitchen and so on! And for shopping, I will check out all those small independent stores in NoLita and SoHo. Barbara Bui, one of my favorite designer, Reinstein & Ross, my favorite jewelry shop where my wedding & engagement rings come from, INA, Selima's... just to name a few.

私はソーホーのウエストブロードウエイのロフトに１５年、その後ノリータに４年住みました。ノリータはリトルイタリーの真横なので、毎日のように、この手作りパスタのウインドウディスプレイが美しいイタリアンデリの前を通ったものです。NYには素晴らしいレストランがわんさか。絶対に行く予定をしているのが、友人のセレブシェフ、エリック・リペールのル・ベルナルダン。ちょうどエリックはNYにいないので会えないのが残念。そして私が通い続けたフェバレイト：バルタザー、ハンプトンチャトニー、ノーホースター、ジャクソンダイナー（クイーンズ）、バブ、ターキッシュキッチン、、。
そしてショッピングは、ノリータやソーホーのショップ。大好きなバーバラブイ、結婚＆婚約指輪をお願いしたラインスタイン＆ロスという美しい宝石店。イナ、セリマ、、、をはじめ、まだいっぱいあります。



This intersection of Prince St. and Broadway was my daily walk. I can still smell the smoke from the street vendor at that corner. I shall stop at Dean & DeLuca to get some tea and a Planet Doughnut... or perhaps icy cold cardamon coffee at the Hampton Chutney instead... or perhaps both...

このプリンス通りとブロードウエイの交差点は、私の毎日のお散歩ルートでした。角の屋台の煙の臭いが今でもするくらいです。ディーンアンドデルーカで、紅茶とプラネットドーナッツでも買おうかな。それか、ハンムトンチャトニーの冷た〜いカルダモンコーヒーが良いかな。この際、両方にしようかな、、、




And believe or not, I cannot wait to take the subway! No, I am not kidding. I miss the subways. I am so happy that I do not have to drive anywhere and I can just hop into the subway! New York, New York, here I come. Get ready for the hurricane Rima!

そして信じられないことに、地下鉄に乗るのが待ち遠しいんです！冗談じゃありませんよ。マジで地下鉄が恋しい。ニューヨークでは車の運転をせずに、どこからでも地下鉄に乗れるのがたまりません！ニューヨークよ、もうすぐ行きますぞ。台風リーマにご用事！

Jacaranda Heaven ジャカレンダ天国

My house is surrounded by these purple flower trees right now, and it is gorgeous! Those flowers are called jacaranda, and I wrote about this flower in my blog last year. The first time I ever saw this flower was back in India many years ago. I was so taken by its beauty, but never really saw it again anywhere else. Then when I moved to SoCal last year... I was surrounded by jacaranda!

今、私の家はこの紫色の花で囲まれてゴージャス！この花、ジャカランダといって、昨年もこのブログで書きました。初めてこの花を見たのは最初にインドを訪れた時。もう何年も前のことです。その後はどこでも目にすることなかった、この美しいジャカランダの花は、去年南カリフォルニアに引っ越してきたらそこら中にあったのです！



Each flower looks like this, and it is absolutely lovely. Yet, it has no smell.

お花はこんな感じで可愛い。でも香はまったくしないんです。



My pug, Chai was enjoying a moment with all those jacaranda flowers on the grass...

私のパグ犬、チャイは、芝生の上に落ちているジャカランダの花を見るのが好きなようです、、、



And he decided to take a break on the bed of jacaranda!

すると今度は、ジャカランダの花のベッドの上に座り込んで、すっかりくつろいでしまった！




The 5th Avenue where I live and the 4th Avenue have turned into the beautiful jacaranda promenades. They are breathtakingly gorgeous, and I enjoy my walk there every day... thinking about the tall jacarandas in India...

私が住んでいる５番街と、となりの４番街は、見事なジャカランダのプロモナードに変身しています。息を飲むほど美しくて、毎日の散歩が楽しみ、、、そう、インドで見たジャカランダを思い出しながら、、。

Fresh goodies in SoCal 太陽の恵み

My friend gave me those fresh guavas from her garden. The heavenly aroma is intense, and it brings me back to my days in Hawaii. Once I drank so much guava juice there, and gained so much weight! (the guava juice contained so much added sugar...) Those guavas from her garden were naturally sweet. I was told to put some rock salt and black pepper, so I tried it, and it was good!

友人がお庭で採れたグアヴァを持って来てくれました。この楽園のようなアロマは強烈で、私のハワイでの日々の思い出を運んでくれます。いつかハワイでグアヴァジュースを飲み過ぎて一気に太ったことがありました。（あのジュースにはかなり砂糖が入っていた、、）いただいたグアヴァは自然に甘かったです。ロックソルトと黒胡椒をふって食べると美味しいと言われたので、トライしてみたら、うん美味しかった！



These are white guavas. I had never seen the white ones before! They taste the same as the red ones.

こちらもいただいたホワイトグアヴァ。白いのは初めてみました。



My friend also gave me some beautiful fresh Swiss chard, too. They were so big and long that they were longer than my arms! (and I have long arms.) I sauteed them with olive oil and garlic.
They tasted so fresh - it was unbelievable! Right now I am growing my own herbs, such as rosemary, basil, parsley... my dream is to grow my own vegetables. It will happen one day soon :)

友人は、この美しい赤いスイスチャードもくれました。大きくて長くて、私の腕より長いんです！（私の腕はかなり長い、、）オリーブオイルとガーリックでソテーしていただいたら美味しかった。新鮮でビックリでした！今私は、ローズマリー、バジル、パセリなどを育てていますが、いつかお庭で野菜も育てたいと思います。そう、そのうちきっと、、。
