My daily life is surrounded by the palm trees since I moved to SoCal. I wake up with the stunning view of the palm trees, walk my dog along with the palm trees and end my day with the spectacular sunset over the palm trees. They are everywhere, even in the carp pond (can you see the palm tree there?) As they are all over me I'd like to think of them as my protectors!
南カリフォルニアに来てからの日常生活はヤシの木に囲まれています。毎朝素晴らしいヤシの木の眺めで目を覚まし、日中はヤシの並木を犬の散歩、夜はヤシの木のバックに広がるスペクタキュラーな夕焼け。ヤシの木はそこら中にあるんです。そう、コイの池にまで！（ヤシの木が見えますか？上の写真）ここまでヤシの木に囲まれているので、ヤシの木は守り神だと思うようにしました。笑
I saw this woman meditating at the foot of the palm tree... Yes, it is a bit taller than a bodhi tree in Bodhgaya, so what?
ヤシの木のふもとで瞑想をする女性を見かけました、、、そうですね、ブッダガヤの菩提樹よりちょっと背か高いけれど、、、。良いではないですか！
Then, where is this? This photo was taken by my friend, Jeff Holck, in New York. It's a large photo by John Baldessari at the Met, a conceptual artist. I had never heard of this artist before, so I googled. It's funny to find out that he is from San Diego! He must have photographed one of the most familiar items in his life - the palm trees. It must be not so bad to look at this in a icy cold New York right now!
そしてこれは何処？この写真は私のNYの友人、ジェフホルックが撮ったもので、今メトロポリタン美術館で展示されているジョンバルデサリというコンセプチュアルアーティストの作品。この作家、聞いたことなかったのでグーグルしてみました。するとなんと彼はサンディエゴの出身ではありませんか！彼の日常で最も親しみの深いもの、、、ヤシの木をモチーフにしたのですね。氷のように冷く寒いニューヨークでこの作品を見るのも悪くないでしょうねえ〜！

Am I the only one to think of Dr. Zaius from the Planet of the Apes...? That was my favorite movie, and I only saw it 30 times!!! Now I want to see it again...
