Spago at last... とうとうスパーゴに

For how many years have I known these names? Spago, Chinois, Chaya... During the late 80's those names had brought a new breeze of the California cuisine. Well, I visited LA for the first time ever in my life. Thomas, an old friend from my high school in New York took me to Spago for lunch. My choice was this beets & goat cheese layered salad, and it was beautiful to look at and delicious!

スパーゴ、シノワ、ちゃや、、、もう何年も前からこれらの名前を聞いていたことでしょう？８０年代の終わり頃から、「カリフォルニアキュイジーヌ」という名前を広めたレストランです。初めてLAを訪れた私。ハイスクール時代の友人トーマスが、スパーゴでのランチに招待してくれました。私が選んだのは、ビーツとゴーとチーズのレイヤーサラダ。見た目も美しくお味も良かったです！

I met Wolfgang Puck in the late 80's in New York with my celebrity chef friend Mark Miller at a party. Surprisingly he was at Spago cooking and greeting people. We chatted a little bit, and I could not believe the fact that he looked exactly the same as 20 years ago. Actually he looked even younger!

スパーゴのオーナーシェフでセレブシェフのウオルフガングパックとは、私の友人でやはりセレブシェフのマークミラーと一緒にあるNYのパーティで会ったことがありました。２０年前くらいのことです。ビックリしたことに、スパーゴに彼がいました。しかも料理したり挨拶したり。
セレブシェフはテレビに出たり出張が多いので、実際にレストランにいることは少ないのが現実。でもこうして彼のフラッグシップのお店にはちゃんと顔出しているのですね。それにしても驚いたのは、２０年前からまったく変わってなかった彼。しかも若返ったくらいです！
