At the Getty Center, LA ゲティセンター

We went to the Getty Center in LA. This museum was built by Paul Getty, the oil tycoon, and the admission was free based upon his will. How wonderful is that? If I were a billionaire I'd definitely support artists and their arts for sure! I could feel my eye lids trembling as I saw his numerous splendid collection of art. Oh, do I love beautiful things! Among so many breathtaking pieces this caught my eyes - Virgin Mary.

ロスアンジェルスにあるゲティセンター（美術館）に行きました。オイルタイクーンだった
ポールゲティが設立したこの美術館は入場料は無料です。彼の遺言に「一般にただで
見てほしい」とあったそうです。素晴らしい！私も大富豪だったとしたら、芸術家たちを
支援して、芸術を大切すること間違いありません。数多くの素晴らしい作品たちを
観賞できて最高でした。目が潤ってピクピクするのを感じました。美しいもの大好き。
特に、この「バージンメリー」マリア様の彫刻には感動。


Then, something really magical happened. In front of this piece by Jacques-Louis David there was a woman viewing this portrait of the sisters of Napoleon's nieces, and she looked identical of Charlotte Bonaparte (in blue) in the painting!!! My husband was stunned by the resemblance, too, and we wondered if she felt that way, too... How incredible and even spooky that was!

そして凄いことが起こりました。このジャックルイダヴィッドの作品の前で
この絵をじ～っと見入っていたひとりの女性。ふと彼女の顔を見て唖然と
した私です。この女性、絵の右側の女性と瓜二つ！急いで旦那さんに
目で合図すると、彼も仰天していました。なんとも不思議というか、不気味
というか、、。果たしてこの女性、自分でも似てるなあ、、と思いながら
観賞していたのでしょうか？！あ～びっくりした。こんなこともあるんですネ。笑

I love Açaí Berries! アサイベリー大好き！

When I drank the Açaí juice for the first time several years ago I was so disappointed in its awful taste, and stayed away from it despite the amazing nutrition (polyphenol, iron, calcium, dietary fiber and vitamins). However, at my favorite hang-out places such as The Lotus Cafe and The Swami Cafe I noticed that so many are eating this famous "Açaí Bowl" and they look so happy. So I decided to try once. I was a bit nervous when this beautiful bowl arrived at my table - açaí puree over granola with coconut, banana, strawberries and blueberries on top. I took a bite slowly... and OMG, it was yummy! If I only knew that this was so tasty I would have tried this sooner. Oh well, now I know. So it has been my recent addiction. I recommend this healthy goody for your busy end-of-the-year time.


アサイベリー。このブルーベリーそっくりな赤い実は、
ブラジルが原産地で、ここ数年の間でアメリカでも
すっかり人気の健康食となりました。最初にアサイジュース
を飲んだ時、美味しくなくてがっかり。それ以来、いくら
栄養素たっぷりとはいえ（ポリフェノール、鉄分、食物繊維
やカルシウム）遠ざかっていた私です。ところがこの間、
よく行く「ロータスカフェ」や「スワミカフェ」でまわりを見渡すと
皆が「アサイボール」を幸せそうに食べているのを見て、
一度挑戦することにしたのです。

いただいたのは、この写真のアサイボール。アサイのピュレが、
グラノーラの上にたっぷりかかっていて、ココナッツやバナナ、
ブルーベリーやイチゴがトッピングに！ドキドキしながら一口、、。
うおっ！美味しいではないですか！なんだ、こんなに美味しい
のだったらもっと早く食べていればよかった、、。というわけで、
今はすっかりはまっている私です。日本の皆さんも機会があれば
是非お試しを。栄養ばっちりでヘルシーなので、疲れ気味の年末
にも良いかも知れませんネ！

Holiday Power Up ホリデーパワーアップ

On the day before X'mas we drove for 2 hours to go to the Anza Breggo Desert to hike. This place became famous when the master, Ansel Adams had photographed there. On the Christmas Day we relaxed on the Coronado Beach. My mother in Tokyo was invited to the B'z X'mas concert, and she totally enjoyed it and got rejuvenated! Meanwhile, I got totally powered up by this Yeti (?) that I met in the desert. Happy holidays to you all!

クリスマス前日は、２時間車を飛ばしてアンザブレゴという砂漠へ
ハイキングに行きました。ここは巨匠アンセル・アダムスが撮った
写真で有名になった場所です。クリスマスはコロナドビーチで
のんびりしました。東京の母はB'zのコンサートにご招待いただき、満喫
して来たようです。私の友人２人と一緒に行って若者たちと一緒に
大フィーバーしたそう。風邪気味だったのにすっかり元気になった
と言っています。私はこの砂漠でみつけた「イエティ」（？）を見て
すごいパワーをもらいました！笑　皆さんも楽しいクリスマスだった
ことでしょう！

At Jackson Pollack's Studio ジャクソンポラックのアトリエで

This Polaroid test photo fell off the shelf as I was cleaning my studio. Some years ago a popular fashion magazine did my feature artist interview at the Jackson Pollack Studio in East Hampton, NY. Dressed up in Diane Von Furstenberg I entered the studio that was still filled with heavy, dark energy. I immediately felt ill. As I sat on his floor, covered with his anguish paint, I began feeling very depressed. Jackson Pollack was so there with us. Haunted. After the shoot the entire crew felt very sick. What an experience that was... Only today I can laugh about it!

棚の整理をしていたら、数年前ある人気ファッション雑誌で特集していただいた
アーティストインタビュー＆ファッション撮影のポラロイドテストが
出てきました。ニューヨークのイーストハンプトンにある故ジャクソン
ポラックのアトリエでの撮影。ここでファッションシュートが行われ
たのは、私が初めてだったそう。スタイリストのクライドが用意してくれた
ダイアンファンファステンバーグのドレスを着て、ポラックが残した
このアトリエの床に座っていると、だんだん気持ちが悪くなって
来ました。というか、アトリエに入ったとたん、すぐに出たくなる程
のヘビーなエナジーは強烈だった。まるで彼がまだすぐそこにいて
苦悩に満ちてキャンバスと向き合っているようでした。撮影後は
皆、ぐったり。あんなに暗く重いオーラに包まれた空間も珍しかったな。
今となっては素晴らしい思い出ですけれどネ。

Winter Solstice in SoCal 南カリフォルニアの冬至

It was another extra sunny day in SoCal. The winter solstice, that was. So I took my dog for a long daytime walk, and I am exhausted. In Japan we have a tradition to eat pumpkins and take a "yuzu" bath on a winter solace. I don't have a yuzu at home, so I will use a juicy California orange instead. At 5pm it is pitch dark outside already. By 8pm I may go to sleep!

また今日もすんばらしい「カリフォルニア晴れ」！　太陽は
いつも以上に輝いていました。今日は冬至なのでいつも
より３倍のワンコ散歩。延々と歩いてヘトヘトです、、。
日本ではカボチャを食べて柚子湯に入るのが習慣ですよね。
今、柚子が手元にないので、カリフォルニアオレンジを
湯船に浮かべようかな～。まだお外は午後の５時なのに
真っ暗です。この分じゃ今日は８時には寝てしまいそう。笑

SoCal's X'mas Colors

I go to the Whole Foods market almost every day to buy the fresh products, and found these beautiful green cauliflowers at the entrance. I usually buy local products for the freshness and the ecology reasons.

毎日のように通う「ホールフーズ」マーケットの入り口に
美しくディスプレイされたグリーンカリフラワー。「ホリデーのための
ローカル」と表示されています。私も普段から「ローカル」もの
を買うようにしています。ローカル（近所）で採れたものは、
新鮮だし、運送コストやエナジーが低くエコ対策にもなりますネ。



Many of my friends here have orange, lemon and avocado trees in their yards, and some of them gave us their oranges and avocados yesterday. Needless to say, they are organic, and they taste really, really good. (I mean, really good. ) I wish you could taste them, so that you would know what I mean!

ここ南カリフォルニアではお庭にオレンジやレモン、アボカドの木が
ある友人がいっぱい。自家製、つまりオーガニックのオレンジと
アボカドを友達からいただきました。どれも信じられないくらいの
美味しさ！オレンジも「オレンジの本当に味」がします。あ～皆さんに
食べさせてあげたい！

Funny T-shirt! 笑えるTシャツ！

This T-shirt says, "Hemorrhoid." I wonder if this poor boy knows what it means... (I feel bad!) When this photo was sent to me I could not stop laughing, but then I realized we, Japanese, always wear T-shirts with wrong English. So who are we to laugh at this innocent boy? I'm trying to have sympathy here... (but still cannot stop laughing. Help!)

この気の毒な写真がまわって来た時、つい笑ってしまった私です。
この少年は一体意味を知っていて着てるのかな？（まさか、、ネ？）
でもよく考えてみたら、変な英語のTシャツを着たり、変な英語が
書かれた製品を使っているのは日本ではあたり前のこと。だから
笑える立場じゃないですネ、、。でもやっぱりおかしい！

Parties and parties...

As 2011 is ending soon we have been going to the holiday parties every night, and I am exhausted. Last night we were invited to a museum party in La Jolla by the museum director. The table decoration was absolutely delightful with hundreds of baked angel cookies. Before noticing the sign, "Please Don't Touch," I had grabbed one cookie and ate it. It was delicious, and realized that they had baked really tasty cookies even they were for the display! I am wishing you a happy holiday season!

南カリフォルニアのホリデーシーズンのイメージは、ヤシの木に
イルミネーションがキラキラと輝く感じです。今年もあとわずか。
毎晩のようにパーティが行われ、ちょっと疲れ気味の私です。笑
昨夜は高級住宅地ラホーヤにある美術館の館長さんからご招待を受け、
ファンシーなホリデーパーティにお邪魔して来ました。テーブル
のデコレーション、すべてクッキーでできた天使！何百とずらり
素晴らしかったです。「触らないで下さい」という表示を見る前
に、手前にあったジンジャークッキーを食べてしまった私、、。
それの美味しかったこと、、、笑。ディスプレイとはいえ、ちゃんと
美味しく焼いてるんだな～と感心しました。はっはは～！

Fragrance of New York ニューヨークの香

I love perfumes. I've been buying perfumes since I was a little child. My favorites are always floral rather than musk, and I must say that the Lily of the Valley is my forever number one. However, I've gone "organic" several years ago, therefore I stopped buying perfumes. Now I only use good quality organic essential oils on my body. Unfortunately, most perfumes contain alcohol and lots of chemicals, and they are not good for your body. Yet, there is a store in NYC I enjoy going - Bond 09. I used to buy their perfumes, and I still adore their fragrance and their beautiful window display!

香水が大好きです。子供の頃からお小遣いで香水を買っていました。ムスク系よりフローラル派の私の永遠のフェヴァレイトは、「すずらん」の香です。でも、数年前に「オーガニック」宣言をして、体につけるもの、体内に入れるもの全てをオーガニックにして以来、香水を買わなくなりました。今はずっと良質のオーガニックエッセンシャルオイルを愛用しています。残念ながら香水にはアルコールやケミカルが沢山含まれているし、体には良いと思えませんしネ、、。でも、ニューヨークでは見るために必ず立ち寄るのが、ボンド０９。いつもここの香水を買っていた私は、未だにここの香と美しいウインドウディスプレイが大好きです！

Magnificent Dolphins! イルカたち、素晴らしい！

The ocean in California is always cold, and to me, even with a wet suite it is chilly..., but not for the surfers! They are surfing in spring, summer, fall and winter. I enjoy watching them on the beach, and recently I found this amazing video of the dolphins at the beach we pass very often. I have seen one dolphin at a beach, but nothing like this! Moreover, I found out that this is a nude beach!

カリフォルニアの海の水はウエットスーツを着ても冷たいのですが、
サーファーたちはそんなこと気にしませんヨ。ビーチ大好きな私は
いろんなビーチに行って楽園のような景色をエンジョイします。
このビデオは私もよく通る有名なビーチ。イルカは一頭だけ見た
ことありますが、こんなのは信じられない！！！しかも、ここは
ヌードビーチなんですって。笑　だからイルカも嬉しそう？笑

Relaxed Weekend... のんびり日曜日

Chai, my pug and I spent some quality weekend together while my husband was away. We went to the Balboa Park and played hide-and-seek at home. I gave him a big bone as a treat - that's right, I was trying to win his love since Chai's favorite is always my husband... ;( He was a bit more affectionate towards me, but I knew that it wouldn't last as soon as my husband comes home...

今週末は久々に我が家でのんびりしました。旦那さんが出張で留守だったので、私とチャイは
バルボアパークまでお散歩に行ったり、お家でチャイが大好きな隠れんぼをして遊んだり。
そして特別に巨大な骨もプレゼント！チャイにとって神様のような私の旦那さんがいない
間に、チャイを甘やかした私でした。でも、旦那さんが帰宅したら、またすぐチャイは私のことなんかどうでも良くなっちゃうのだけどネ。苦笑

My new book, "Save the Himalayas" 絵本『不思議な冒険』

Many children came to read my new book at my book launch (Rubin Museum of Art), and I was so delighted to hear their comments such as, "I want to wear Zompa's dress!" and "Why is the river water round?" They are so free and innocent...! Originally I wrote this book for children, but it contains some important messages towards the adults in the world. So I hope that you will get a copy as a holiday gift!

先日ニューヨークのルービン美術館で開催された私の絵本出版記念イベントでも、沢山の子供達が
絵本を読みに来てくれました。「ゾンパのドレスが着たい！」とか、「川の水がなぜ丸くなっているの？」
