Cone-headed cabbages

It's been more than one year since I moved to Socal, and it still surprises me quite often. I found these funny-looking cabbages at the Whole Foods where I shop daily. I had never seen such lovely shaped cabbages before! I heard that they are grown locally in California.

Then I remembered Julia Child on television making the "stuffed cabbages" some years ago. Instead of rolling the meat with a cabbage leaves she cut a cabbage into a half, then stuffed the meat in between the leaves. For this beautiful cone-headed cabbage Julia's recipe will work the best for sure... Perhaps I shall try one tonight (with a vegetarian stuffing!)

南カリフォルニアに来てから一年以上経ちましたが、
未だにびっくりすることがしょっちゅうあります。この間、
いつも食材を買う「ホールフーズ」で、へんてこな形の
キャベツを発見！とんがっていてコーンの形をして
いるんです。調べてみたら、カリフォルニアでこの
とんがったキャベツを育てている農場があるそう。
うわ～綺麗だこと！調理するのがもったいないくらい
ですね！

以前、ジュリア・チャイルドの「ロールキャベツ」を
テレビで見たのを思い出しました。彼女はキャベツの葉で
お肉を巻くのでなく、キャベツを丸ごと半分に切って、
葉と葉の間にお肉を詰めたんです。
こんなに綺麗なシェイプのキャベツなら、ジュリア風が
見た目も栄えそうですね！今度作ってみようかな～
