His Holiness the Dalai Lama is visiting San Diego for the first time, and I went to welcome him at his arrival. He came via Hawaii by a private jet, and was greeted by the San Diego Mayor and other members. I recently met him at his residency in Dharamsala, India, but was so thrilled to see him again here in San Diego, and he was kind enough to greet me. (photo by Andy Narendra)

先日、初めてサンディエゴを訪問なさったダライ・ラマ法王
をお出迎えして来ました。ハワイからプライベートジェット機で
到着して、サンディエゴ市長たちが空港でご挨拶。私は
３月にインドの猊下のお宅でお会いしたばかりでしたが、
何度お会いしても胸が一杯になるお方です。お疲れのところ、
私にまで「おお～！」と笑顔で挨拶してくださいました。



The Dalai Lama has been invited by three universities in San Diego, and he gives talks here and there all day long. His schedule is hard as usual. I took twenty three teenager students to one of his public talk. The topic was peace and compassion. The kids were so excited to see the Dalai Lama in person, and some were so thrilled in tears. They were all deeply touched and impressed by his wisdom, jokes and a big smile. Later in the evening, some gifts were given to me... a signed book, "Beyond Religion," Tibetan precious pills, blessed red strings and an amethyst mala. Needless to say that I will treasure them.

サンディエゴの３つの大学で朝から晩まで
ひっきり無しに講演、、という、いつものごとくハード
スケジュール。私は２３人のアメリカ人のティーネージャー
たちを連れて、サンディエゴ大学での講演に行って
来ました。子供たちは目を輝かせて興奮状態。
「あのダライ・ラマに会えるなんて信じられない！」と
叫びながら泣き出す子もいましたよ。笑
猊下の知恵と教訓、ジョークに皆、感動していました。
