Yesterday I received this photo from a stranger. It is a photo of a staff member reading my book, "Wonder Garden" to the Tibetan children at a Tibetan orphanage in Nepal. When I saw those children leaning forward to see my book so eagerly I was deeply touched. It was just so wonderful to know that my books are read by many children whom I've never met!
昨日、ある見知らぬ人からこの写真が届きました。
これは、ネパールにあるチベット孤児院で、スタッフが
チベット人の子供たちに私の絵本『ワンダーガーデン』を
読んでいる写真です。乗り出して見ている子供たちを
見て感激しました！私の知らないところで沢山の子供
たちが私の絵本を読んでくれているんですね。あ～
嬉しい！
"Wonder Garden" was the second book that my "Books for Children" created, and we donated about 2,500 copies to the Tibetan refugee schools in India, Nepal and Bhutan. The forewords were written by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and professor Robert Thurman, and the special messages on the cover were written by my dear friends in Japan, a popular actress, YOU, a renowned singer, Koshi Inaba and a popular photographer, Rowland Kirishima. It is a true story that happened at the garden of the Dalai Lama, and it is a heart-warming episode of an old dog and a baby rabbit.
It is one of my favorite stories. It has been a while since I read it... I think that I shall read it again.
この絵本は、「ブックス・フォー・チルドレン」の
第２弾で、２５００部程を、インド、ネパール、ブータンに
あるチベット難民学校へ贈りました。沢山の方々の
ご協力があってこそ実現しました。序文は、ダライ・
ラマ法王、ロバート・サーマン教授、帯メッセージは、
タレントのYOU、稲葉浩志君、桐島ローランド君と、
私の仲良したちが寄せてくれました。「思いやり」
がテーマで、ダライ・ラマ法王のお庭を舞台とした
老犬と仔兎の心温まる実話です。
もう完売してしまった絵本ですが、私のフェバレート
の一冊でもあります。今日は久々に取り出して、
また読んでみようかな。
