I always stay at the Hotel Imperial New Delhi when I go to India via Delhi. There are so many wonderful hotels in Delhi, but for me, staying somewhere else is unthinkable. This gorgeous hotel has been a favorite among the world's royal members and celebrities, but it is not why I love this hotel. It is their art collection. There are more than two thousands art pieces at the hotel, and it is literally like staying in a museum!
This photo above is a linen bag that the Imperial and Fragonard in South France collaborated to design, and I found it (and bought it) in the hotel shop. The hotel doormen, just like this stitch painting, always welcome you at the entrance.
大好きなインド。デリー経由の時は必ずここ、
ホテル・インペリアル。デリーには素晴らしいホテルが
沢山ありますが、私にはインペリアル以外考えられない
くらい気に入っています。世界中の王室やセレブが愛用
するこのエレガントでゴージャスなホテルには、２千以上の
アートが展示されています。まさに美術館に泊まっている
ようなもの。上の写真は、インペリアル・デリーと南フランス
のフラゴナールのコラボバッグ。この刺繍とおりのドアマン
が、いつも出迎えてくれるのです。
During the hot afternoon in Delhi it is so nice to stroll in the museum looking at their art collection. Especially their miniature drawings are splendid!
暑い日中は、ホテル内をお散歩しながら、素晴らしい
絵のコレクションを観賞するのも楽しいものです。
特にインドのミニチュアドローイングは、美術館並みの
コレクション！
There are may portraits of dignified maharajahs, too. Look at their mustaches! There is a portrait of my friend's grandfather here also.
マハラジャたちの肖像画も沢山です。みんな、
立派なおヒゲ！私の友人のマハラジャのお爺様の
肖像画もこのホテルにかかげられています。
And, of course, the elephants! They are considered as
sacred here, so they are everywhere, and as an elephant
lover it is like a heaven!

The famous restaurant in the Imperial is 1911. I enjoyed their signature breakfast every morning.
This linen napkin with pink stitches was so large that would cover my entire legs!
「１９１１」は、インペリアル内の有名なレストラン。
ここで、毎朝、豪勢なブレックファストをいただきました。
このピンク色の綺麗な刺繍が入ったリネンのナプキン
も、かなりの大判です。
The afternoon tea at the Imperial was perfect. The chai was perfect and the tea set was perfect.
Oh, I miss India!
However, I must confess... every time I go to India I swear myself that I would not come back. While I am there I usually hate it being there. India is not easy. The hygiene issue, the traffic... every thing is in a swirl of chaos.
Yet, I keep going back. There is something I cannot explain about India that allures me to return. Perhaps India has something that no one has in the world, and I still don't know what that is.
So, having said that, I will probably go back again and again.... in a very near future!
インペリアルのアフタヌーンティータイム。
ティーセットもチャイのお味も文句無し。
あ～今すぐにでも、またインドに行きたい、、。
でも、インドという土地は、行くといつも
「なぜ又ここに来てしまったのか、、。もう最悪！」
と思うこともしょっちゅうなのです。衛生面にしろ、
交通面にしろ、すべてがカオスの渦。決して、楽な
場所ではありません。毎回、「もう２度と来るものか」
と心に誓うのですが、なぜか繰り返し行ってしまう、、。
やはり、それは、インドには、世界中どこに行っても
みつからない何かがあるのだと思います。
それが何かまだわかりませんので、また近い将来
に行くことになるでしょう！
