Gold Rush ゴールドラッシュ

May I brag about my gold collection a little? Yes, gold is my weakness..., especially the Indian yellow gold! I have no interests in expensive bags, cars, clothing or anything, but gold and Buddha statues are my sweet spots :) When I was a child I thought that gold looked so vulgar and until my early thirties I only wore silver. Then, I went to India. That was the only beginning of my painful gold obsession. I felt in love with their breathtaking 22k, 23k and 24k gold jewelry! The photo above is a part of my humble collection (yap, I have more!) Some of them used to belong to my grandmother who also used to love beautiful jewelry :) My mother who has absolutely no interests in jewelry gave me all. Lucky me!

今日はちょっとだけ自慢させてください。そう、私のゴールドコレクション。高価なバッグや服、車、、など全く興味ない私ですが、唯一の弱みが、「金」と「仏像」なんです。
子供の頃は、金はなぜか下品に見えて嫌いでした。３０代初めまでシルバーしか身につけなかった私ですが、インドに行ってすべてが変わってしまった！それがことの始まり始まり、、。インドの２２k、２３k、２４kのイエローゴールドにすっかり魅了されてしまったのです。上の写真はコレクションのほんの一部。（実はまだあるの！笑）中には祖母からもらったものも含まれています。祖母も綺麗な宝石が大好きだった、、。宝石に興味無い母が全部くれるのです。ラッキーな私。へへへ、、、

Buddhas in New York! ニューヨークのブッダ

I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art yesterday and spent a few hours at the Asian Section as usual. This small "red room" is my favorite spot at the entire Met - it is usually very quiet and not many people are there. There is a bench you can sit on... I often sit there and stare at those stunning statues and meditate. "God, I love New York!" That is how I feel when I am surrounded by those amazing treasures from the Himalayas.

メトロポリタン美術館に行って、いつも訪れる大好きなアジアンセクションで、これらの仏像を堪能しました。この「赤い部屋」は静かであまり人もいなく落ち着きます。ベンチがあるので、仏像を見つめながら瞑想したりします。こんな一時は「ああ、ニューヨーク大好き！」と思うものです。

"The Potala Exhibition" has been taking place in Tokyo despite our world-wide protest against it.
It has been organized by the Chinese government and they are making lots of money out of the Tibetan treasures that they stole from the Tibetans. As a Buddha statue collector myself I wanted to see the Buddha statues that once belonged to the Tibetan people, but I absolutely refuse to visit the exhibition. As you can see there are many wonderful Buddhas in New York!

世界中で抗議が続いている上野で開催中の「ポタラ展」は、もうすぐ大阪へと移動します。仏像コレクターでもある私、この展覧会で展示されている、かつてはチベタンたちのものだった仏像を見たい気持ちは当然あります。でも、絶対に私は観に行かない。ニューヨークにだってこんなに素晴らしい仏像たちがいる。

This last photo is a Jain statue. It looks like Buddha, but it is not. Jainism is fascinating. Their religion focus on compassion and I have seen Jain practitioners in India walking around wearing a mask over their mouth - they are trying to avoid killing any living sentient beings. There are many religions in the world..., but they all promote one thing: love & compassion. We got to stop killing each other.
この最後の写真はブッダではなく、ジェイン教の像ですが、ジェイン教は仏教ととても似ています。思い遣りにフォーカスした教えで、よくインドでジェイン教の人々がマスクをして歩いているのを見かけますが、これは、まちがって口から小さな虫などを吸い込んでしまって殺してしまわないようにしているのです。この世にはいろんな宗教がありますが、共通しているのはひとつ：思い遣りと愛。人間は殺し合うことを止めないと、、。

Titanic Santa タイタニック・サンタ？

I visited this lovely town, Olympia (near Seattle) for several days. As a typical winter weather in the Northwest it should have been raining, but the weather was sunny and gorgeous! There was this beautiful harbor in front of our hotel and many boats had cute Christmas decorations. This photo is my favorite "DiCaprio Santa." The town of Olympia was funky, arty, corky and charming. It was a lot like Williamsburg in Brooklyn, New York. Needless to say that I had the best coffee there!

シアトルから車で１時間のチャーミングな街、オリンピアのホテルの前の波止場で撮った写真です。「デカプリオ・サンタ」。オリンピアの街はワシントン州のキャピタルとして知られていますが、ファンキーでアーティスティックでプログレブで、ニューヨークのブルックリンのウイリアムズバーグを思い出させるクリエイティブな街でした。最高のコーヒーを味わったのも言うまでもありません〜！

Wally is gone... 遠くへ行ってしまったウオリー

Chai's best friend, Wally has moved to New Jersey... I have not told Chai this sad news yet so Chai is thinking that we will run into Wally very soon. This lovely photo of Wally and Chai was taken by Wally's parents. You can see how much Chai loves Wally! Every time I say the word "Wally" Chai jumps up and runs towards the entrance door thinking that Wally is coming over. I am very sad, too that Wally and his parents are gone. Well, Chai, your birthday is coming... if you a good boy we will take you to see your fluffy best friend!

この写真を見てのとおり、チャイはウオリーに首ったけ。でも、大好きなウオリー君は両親とともにニュージャージに引っ越してしまいました、、、。そんなことも知らないチャイは、ウオリーが住んでいたビルの近くを通るたびに、キョロキョロしています。あ〜可哀想なチャイ、、、！我が家にいても、「ウオリー」と言うと、チャイはすぐに飛び上がってドアーの前に行ってウオリーが来ると思って坐って待ってるんです。チャイよ、もうすぐお誕生日だから、お利口さんにしていたら、ウオリーに会いに連れて行ってあげるからネ。

Silk Road, Upper West Side アッパーウエストのシルクロード

We went to see the "Silk Road" Exhibition at the Museum of Natural History yesterday. For some reason when I hear the word "silk road" my heart always gets restless. I have been drawn to the camels, the deserts, the moon and the travelers... ever since I was a child. The exhibition was rather small, but very charming. It is perfect for children. Then we walked across the Central Park. It was getting dark and the soft moon light was hitting the city. The walk felt long... as if I were traveling through the silk road.

自然博物館で開催されている「シルクロード」展を見て来ました。「シルクロード」という言葉を聞くたびに、心がそわそわする私。子供の頃から、ラクダ、月、砂漠、旅人などに惹かれてきました。もしかしたら前世でシルクロードをうろうろしていたのかも知れません。展示会は小さな規模でしたが、チャーミングなものでした。子供が喜ぶ感じかな。その後は、セントラルパークを歩いてイーストサイドまで横切りました。よく歩くルートなのに、なぜだかすごく長く感じました。まるでシルクロードみたいに、、、。夕暮れ時で、月がマンハッタンをぼんやりと照らしていました。

My recent addiction これ無しではちょっと、、！

I just love this stuff!!! I have been addicted to horse radish for several months now. When I first came to the states as a child I did not know what the horse radish was... it is not a common item in Japan although some farmers in Hokkaido have begun growing them. One day back in spring, I happened to buy a "horse radish hummus" at the Celler in Long Island City. I fell in love with its unique taste and kept buying it everyday! Then, one day, they completely stopped selling it. I got so 'agitated' and 'angry' (sign of addiction!) and could not stop thinking about the horse radish hummus. I went to the Whole Foods and they did not have it. So I just bought a bottle of horse radish and mixed with a regular hummus. It was that simple...why did not I think about that sooner...?!? I put it on everything - sandwitches, grains, crackers... sometimes I just eat it as it is. I thank God for creating this!

春からはまっているのが、このホースラディッシュ。アブラナ科の一種で、日本では西洋ワサビと呼ばれています。私が思うには、ワサビというよりは、大根に近い舌触り。よくローストビーフなどの付け合わせとして出てきますね。渡米したばかりの子供の頃、なんてまずいものだろうと思ったのに、最近は「中毒」になってしまった！サンドイッチはもちろん、玄米とも一緒に食べたりしています！そのままスプーンですくって食べたりもします。それ程好きなんです〜！写真の瓶が３日くらいでなくなってしまうんですよ。

Back in NYC! 久々のニューヨーク

Oh my goodness, I have not written anything here for a long time! My stay in Tokyo was great - being with my parents, seeing friends, eating good food everyday and having my solo-exhibition!
Oh, one more... seeing the Dalai Lama again in Tokyo, too! On the way back to NYC I watched "Julie and Julia." It was a cute movie and it was shot in the Long Island City! I could not wait to walk my dog near the pier (see the photos above)...! I just love it here. Welcome home, Rima!

一ヶ月以上ぶりです！笑　久々のニューヨークは思ったより暖かで、ホッとしました。東京からNYCへと向かう飛行機で見た映画「ジュリーとジュリア」は、私が住むロングアイランドシティがロケで、懐かしかったです。戻った翌日、チャイを連れていつものお散歩コースを楽しみました。川沿いの桟橋（上の写真）です。夜景も見事でしょう？！ホントにここが大好き！もう、どこにも移りたくなりです〜！

Wonderful Day 素晴らしい日

What an amazing human being. The Dalai Lama. My inspiration. My guru. Today I was so fortunate to have an official audience with His Holiness. I talked about my next children's book project for the Tibetan refugee children in exile and told him that I wanted to make a book on the environmental issue, especially focused on the Himalayan ecology. He told me to come and join him at the environmental conference in India. He also said to me that it is very, very important to educate young children about the environmental issue. I remember the melting glacier in Ladakh last year. Time is running out for the earth... and for Tibet, too.

今日は、NY訪問中のダライラマ法王と正式謁見をする幸運に恵まれました。今まで何度もお会いしたことがありましたが、正式な謁見は初めてで、緊張しました。旦那さんと、カメラマンの女性とビデオカメラの４人でしたが、謁見のお部屋に猊下が招いて下さると、カメラマンとビデオマンは、お付きの人にすぐに部屋を出る様に言われ、旦那と私と猊下と秘書の４人だけになりました。緊張して言いたい事の半分も言えませんでしたが、どうにか、きちんと話すことができました。「ブックスフォーチルドレン」の次の絵本についてお話しました。「ヒマラヤの環境について教育する絵本を考えています」とお伝えすると、とても熱心に「それは、とても、とても大切なことです。もうすぐインドにいらっしゃい」とおっしゃいました。環境をテーマにしたコンフェレンスでお話されるようで、私も招いて下さったのです。

King Kong, Come back! キングコングよ、戻ってきて〜！

昨夜からアメリカのシンボルとも言えるエンパイアステートビルが真っ赤に点灯されました。これは、中国共産党６０周年を祝ってです。いくらチャイニーズが多いNYとはいえ、何も共産主義を祝う様なことをしなくても良いのに、、と、多くのニューヨーカーたちが感じています。メディアでも大騒ぎ。もちろんSFTを始めとする大勢が、抗議ラリーを開催しました。朝も夜もエンパイアの前でデモ。これもすぐにNYタイムズなどのメディアでとりあげられました。
今週はダライラマもNY入りします。こんな光景、見せたくないなあ、、、。溜息。

I could not look at the Empire State Building last night from my window. It is lit up in red and yellow.... to celebrate the Communist China's 60th Anniversary. "What were they thinking?," many New Yorkers have been questioning. Perhaps they did it for the Chinese immigrants in New York and America..., but why celebrate the communism??? Many are extremely disturbed, I read in media today. The photo above has been taken by the SFT member. I do not know how he did it, but it looks great to see "Free Tibet" !

One life, One meeting 一期一会

これは秋の新宿伊勢丹での１６回目の新作個展で発表する作品の一枚。特別プレビューです！
今年のテーマは「ハピネス」。カオスの渦に巻かれる今日の世界。本当のしあわせって何だろうと、考えさせられました。この絵は、いつものように夢で見たビジョンです。ふと、「一期一会」という言葉が浮かんできました。英語で何というのだろう？と思って、旦那さんに聞いたら、「う〜ん、わかんない」だって。英語だと、こういうことを表現する文化が無かったのなあ、、、と思っていた数日後。ある雑誌に「一期一会」というタイトルの記事が目に飛び込んできました。もちろん英語で書かれたアメリカの雑誌なのだけど、ちゃんと日本語で書いてあった。記事を読むところ、「ワンライフ、ワンミーティング」と言うのそうです。なるほど、、、感動しました。この言葉の奥深さをあらためて感じたんです。

This is one of my latest work that I will be exhibiting in October in Tokyo. This will be my 16th solo exhibition at the Isetan Art Gallery, and this year's theme is "Happiness." (What the heck is happiness?, I have been asking myself for all my life.) As I draw the visions I see in my dreams this image came into my dream the other day. I titled it, "One life, One meeting." It is an old Buddhist word in Japan. I just love that word - it has such deep and profound meaning.

Book Reading on Oct.3 子供の絵本読み聞かせ

I am invited to read my children's books at the Tibetan Festival on October 3. It is a whole day festival with food, dance, art, crafts and prayers at the Jacques Machais Museum. My reading will start from 3pm and we will read in English and Tibetan. Lama Pema Wangdak who received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor this year will read the Tibetan part. １０月３日土曜日の午後３時から、ジャックマーシエ美術館にて、絵本の読み聞かせをします。
読む絵本は、「ワンダーガーデン」と「ワンダートーク」。英語とチベット語で読みます。とはいえ、私のチベット語は悲惨なもの。そこで、今年たいへん名誉あるエリスアイランドメダルオブオナーを受賞なさったチベット僧侶、ペマワンダックさんにチベット語で読んでいただきます。日本人のお客様がいらしたら、日本語でも読みますよ〜！このペマさんは、実は私の「ワンダートーク」のお話を教えて下さった方でもあります。チベット料理、ダンス、クラフト、アート、、、と盛りだくさんのチベット祭り。NY近辺にお住まいの方、是非、ご参加ください！

ビヨーグが！Bjork!

この間、我が家の近くのカフェにビヨーグと彼女の娘がいたそうです。そういえば、最近、ブルックリンの家を買ったという彼女は、私が住むロングアイランドシティのヨットバーバーにヨットを持っているらしく、よく彼女はこのあたりで目撃されています。２００８の上海でのコンサートで、最後に「チベット！チベット！」と狂ったように叫んで中国人たちを怒らせた彼女。う〜ん、偉い！以前からチベット好きで知られる彼女ですが、上海で叫ぶとは。見事です。
少し、日本人の血が入っていると聞いたことあるのですが、ほんとかな？歌はあまり好きじゃないけれど、度胸があるから大ファンです。

Bjork was in my neighbourhood cafe with her daughter, I heard. She apparently bought a place in Brooklyn and keeps her boat in the Long Island City harbour where I live. At her Shanghai concert in 2008 she yelled, "Tibet! Tibet!" and made China very upset. She's known as a Tibet fan, but to do such courageous act it takes a gutty woman. She is amazing. I am not so crazy about her singing, but I am a huge fan as a brave artist.

Tibet belongs to the Tibetans! チベットはチベット人のもの！

この都内の僧侶たちがかかげるバナーは、我々連盟（http://www.seichi-tibet.com)が、１９日に上野で開催するラリーに使うものです。１９日から一般公開される「聖地チベット展」への抗議を数カ月に亘り続けて来ましたが、この中国主催の「チベット展」で、チベットが正しく解説されることはありませんでした。そんな、日本人をバカにしたような展覧会が、とうとう１９日に始まってしまいます。私の強力ブレーンでもあるジャーナリストの勝谷誠彦さんが、１５日発売の「SPA!」誌で、この展覧会のことを批難してくださった。チベットに関して知識が少ない一般日本人たちが、この展覧会に行き、チベットが過去６０年間にわたって中国支配かのもとで悲惨な状況にあることや、ダライラマ法王の惜しみない努力、世界中で上がっている人権問題の声、、、これらについて知ることもなく、帰宅することに胸が痛むばかりです。

展示されている美術品は、チベットのものでした。「捕虜」となっている仏像は、どんな姿をしているのでしょう？可哀想でなりません。仏像が死ぬ程好きな私ですが、そんな哀れな仏像を見に行く無神経さは持っていない。日本もそのうちチベットのような支配下におかれてしまっても可笑しくないですね、こんなことじゃ、、。アメリカ育ちの私ですが、心はいつも日本人です。日本のことが大切だからこそ、今回は黙ってられない。日本でこの展覧会が巡回していること、そして、何も知らずに多くが観に行くこと、、、恥ずかしい気持ちと悔しい気持ちで一杯です。また世界から「日本はなぜ何もしない？」と批難される。あ〜あ。

Despite our opposition campaign against the Tibet Exhibition that is organized by China will begin tomorrow in Tokyo. The museum did not accept our request to indicate the accurate history of modern Tibet. In contrary, the exhibition shows no word about the Dalai Lama who lived in the Potala Palace for centuries. Yet, many artifacts in the exhibition are from the Potala.
What kind of exhibition is this?

Most Japanese do not know anything about Tibet. Tibet issue is rather controlled by the media and Japanese do not receive enough information about Tibet. It was only last March that most Japanese heard about "Tibet" and "The Dalai Lama" for the first time.

This Tibet exhibition that is organized by China will not help the Japanese to really learn about the Tibetan culture. Many Tibetans are furious about this exhibition. I am furious that most Japanese will go to the exhibition being ignorant and go home still ignorant. How absurd that is.

Yes, I can! I Want Michelle's Arms! ミシェルの腕

Yes, I admit it. I want her arms. (Well, I've got her watch though... :)- Several months ago I was so eager to make my arms look like Michelle's and I was lifting weights every day. One day I woke up and could not move my arms. They were numb and I could not feel anything. I panicked and went to see one of the best orthopedic doctors whom my husband had happened to know. Luckily there was nothing wrong with may arms... just "tired." Then I stopped lifting weights completely.
Now it is time to try again. I do not care how many days it will take, but I will get her arms! Yes, I can! Yes, I can! I will show them to you, Michelle!

ミシェルオバマのなんとも逞しく美しい腕は、世界中で話題になりました。だって、すごいんだもの、本当に、、、。（写真を見てください！あ、この腕時計は持ってるから、次は腕だ！）実は私は、数カ月前に、ミシェルの腕に感動し、このプヨプヨの二の腕をどうにかしようと、決意したのでした。「よし。ミシェルの腕を造り上げてみせる。」ジムでウエイト運動を始めてしばらくたったある朝。起きてみると腕が動かないのです。感覚もなくて、タコみたい。慌てて旦那の知り合いの「マンハッタンで指折りの整形外科」に会いに行きました。あいにく結果は異常無しでただの疲れ（つまり運動のしすぎ）ということで、それっきり腕の運動を止めてしまった私。でも、昨日からまたファイトが湧いてきた！
絶対にミシェルの腕になってやるぞ。できる！できる！きっとやってみせる〜！

Rima...! 理麻という名前

９月２日に生まれた私に、オードリーヘプバーンのファンだった父が、ヘプバーンが『緑の館』で演じた「リーマ」のように美しくなるようにという願いから、「理麻」と名付けてくれました。残念ながら願いは叶いませんでしたが、まあ、この誕生日まで健康に生きているので、何よりだと、自分では思っています。笑
そして上の写真は、アメリカで大人気だったコミックシリーズ『リマ、ザ　ジャングル　ガール』。これは、ハドソン著の『緑の館』をモデルに作られた漫画です。ワンダーウーマンのように、強くてセクシーという、いかにもアメリカで受けそうな女性像。ふむふむ、、、。同じ名前でも、対照的だこと！私はオードリーのようにエレガントでもなく、ジャングルガールのように強くもない。理麻という名前は心から気に入っているけれど、名前が掲げるイメージは、完全に裏切っているなあ〜　笑

My dad as a big fan of Audrey Hepburn took the name, Rima, from the English novel, "The Green Mansions" and named me after it. (Audrey played Rima in the movie in 1959.) He was hoping that I would become beautiful and elegant like Audrey... (sorry, Dad!) The photo above is the famous comic book series called, Rima the Jungle Girl. She looks like a Wonder Woman... strong and sexy. That is not me, either. Humm... Oh, well. I love my name anyway!

My Boys...!

これは、うちのチャイ（７ヶ月歳）と、一週間あずかっているウオリー（一歳半）のお昼寝。
ふわふわの毛が気持ち良いので、チャイはいつもウオリーの背中に乗っかって寝ます。優しいウオリーは、嫌がりもせずに、ただひたすら寝るだけ。チャイよ、本当に良い友ができてよかったねえ〜！ウオリーは日曜日の夜には、実家に帰ってしまいます。なんだか今から淋しい気持ちに浸る私、、、。ウオリー、またチャイのためにも遊びに来てね〜！

This is how our Chai (7-month-old pug) and our neighbors' Wally (1,5 year old) sleep! Chai loves Wally's fluffy hair and he just goes on the back of Wally and sleeps. Wally does not seem to mind either... or he just wants to sleep (?) This Sunday Wally is going home to his owners. I miss him already... Please come and visit us, Wally!

Rockfeller State Park ロックフェラー州立公園

NY州郊外にあるロックフェラー州立公園までドライブして来ました。車で約１時間。あっと言う間に、あたりは緑の楽園です。このステイトパーク、実はあまり知られていません。チャイを連れてハイキングをしました。深い森を歩くのは初めてのチャイ。自然の香に興奮状態です。３０度以上の暑さの中、キノコや花々を眺めながら延々と歩きました。チャイはかなりばてて、時々、こうして寝そべってゼーゼー言っていました。ふと、茂みから熱い視線を感じた私、、、。すると、そこには鹿が、ひっそりと私を見つめているではないですか！驚かせないようにカメラのシャッターを切ると、ピヨンピヨンと跳ねながら、去って行きました。

We took Chai (our pug puppy) to his first hike at the Rockefeller State Park. He ran around the flowers and mushrooms in the deep woods and he was so excited. It was over 85 degrees that day and he got exhausted. During our break I felt that something was watching me... it was a beautiful deer. I did not want to scare her so I photographed her very quietly. She watched me without moving for a while and then ran away. What a lovely day it was.

Chai's Best(?) Friend チャイの親友？

Chai, our pug puppy has got a crush on Wally! Well, we do, too. Wally is our neighbors' dog and we will dog sit for about a week while they go on vacation. Chai is so excited and crazy around Wally and Wally has been incredibly patient with Chai. Can you imagine that Wally only eats a little everyday? Chai eats much more than such a huge dog!!!

見てください、この可愛い巨大なわんちゃん！これは、ウオリーという近所に住む夫婦の犬で、ラブとプードルのハーフ。２歳です。チャイはウオリーが大好きで、もう興奮状態。ウオリーを一週間あずかることになりました。こんなに大きな身体なのに、静かでお利口さん。つい、そこにいるのを忘れてしまうくらいです。チャイがちょっかいかけて来ても、辛抱強くかまってくれます。優しいウオリー。私もメロメロです。へへへ、、、

More photos from Japan! 日本旅行その２

洞爺湖のこの美しい眺めは、ホテルの窓から撮ったもの（上の写真）。ここで昨年の夏にG８サミットが開催されたのですね。あたりは中国人観光客でごった返していました。そして、長年行きたかった京都の伏見稲荷神社。延々と続くトリイが神秘的でした。クリストの「門」は、きっとこれにインスパイアされたのに違いね、、と旦那と話ながら歩きました。でも、歩く方向を間違って、ローカルのおばさんに注意されてしまった。（怒られた！）私、日本人なのに、知らないこといっぱいで反省、、です。暑い京都を一日中、大汗かきながら歩きました。二ノ坂（上から３番目の写真）も、雰囲気溢れるお散歩道。感動が続いて暑さもぶっとびました。最後の日は東京。母と旦那と３人で、大好きなお店、麻布十番の「浪花家」さんへ。あんこ狂の旦那は、たい焼きを見ると、目がギラギラと光り始めた、、、！あつあつのできたてを、名物店長さんが運んで来てくれました。旦那が「どこから食べるの？」と聞くと、お父さん店長は、「女は尻尾から、男は頭からだよ！」と、元気いっぱいのお返事。私は白玉あんみつ。ああ、美味しかった。

The Toya Lake (the top photo) was taken from our hotel room. It looked so mysterious and beautiful! The G8 Summit was held here last summer. The area was filled with the honeymooners from China. The second photo is from the Fusemi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. We are certain that Christo had been inspired by this to create his Gates! There were hundreds of Torii for miles and miles. Also, the Ninosaka street in Kyoto was a perfect stroll on a hot day in Kyoto.
It was extremely hot, but the street was so beautiful that it was soothing. We spent the last day in Tokyo. We visited one of my favorite spots in Tokyo, Naniwaya in Azabujuban. It is the oldest Taiyaki shop in Japan. My husband who loves "Anko" (red bean paste) was thrilled to try the famous Taiyaki (fish-shaped red bean sweets). The owner came to greet us. He's a well-known celebrity on television. He told my husband to eat the Taiyaki from its "head" because all men should do so. He said that women should eat from the "tails."

What a great trip! 楽しい日本旅行でした！

北海道は阿寒国立公園の摩周湖などをまわり、洞爺湖へ飛び、札幌を見てから、京都へ。京都から和歌山県の高野山へ。そして、東京、、、と、盛り沢山の旅でした。京都の暑さにはビックリ。去年の夏訪れたインドはムーンバイの暑さにも負けないくらいでしたヨ。写真は、上から、高野山のお寺でいただいた精進料理。う〜ん、どれも美味しかった！そして、有名すぎる金閣寺。今さら写真など、、、とも思ったけれど、やっぱり撮っちゃった。金箔を貼ったあとがはっきり見えて凄かったです。そして、京都で見かけた舞子さん。暑いのに汗ひとつ見せず、綺麗でした〜。下の写真は、京都は鴨川沿いのバーのウインドウ。なんだか可愛くって。笑　これから写真の整理をするので、もっとアップします！お楽しみに〜！

Japan in the summer... I had totally forgotten how hot it was! Kyoto was worse than Mumbai, India. Yet, Hokkaido, the northern island was nice and cool. My husband and I traveled to the Akan National Park and visited a beautiful lake, Mashu ko. After checking out Toya and Sapporo we flew to Kyoto and stayed there for four days. One day we made a day trip to Koyasan, a mecca of the esoteric Buddhism in Japan. The top photo is the "Shojin" cuisine lunch we had at a monastery. This is a monk meal and it is all vegetarian! The next one is Kinkakuji, the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto. It is too famous. We saw a beautiful Maiko (Geisha) on a street one day. Then the last photo is at a bar window in Kyoto. Russian dolls? That is all right :) I have to organize my photos. More later!

Off to Japan! 日本の旅へ

これから東京へと発ちます。今年の夏休みは日本旅行。北海道は摩周湖、洞爺湖、札幌とまわり、それから京都へ飛んで、高野山、奈良にも行きます。旦那と私は毎年、夏休みの行き先を、かわりばんこに決めるのです。行きたい場所が違うので、喧嘩にならないように。笑　今年は旦那が日本を選びました。私も日本を旅行したことがあまりないので、楽しみです〜！

We are leaving for Tokyo now. First, we will fly to Hokkaido to visit Mashu Lake, Toya lake and Sapporo. Then we will fly to Kyoto to visit Koyasan and Nara. I'm excited to see my homeland!

結婚記念日 Anniversary!

きのうは結婚記念日で「ブルーヒル」という美味しいレストランに食事に行きました。このレストランはNY州アップステートに農場を持っていて、そこで飼育された豚や羊、野菜や果物などを使用しているので知られています。どれもが新鮮なのです。ラムが大好きな私ですが、その日のメニューにはラムがなかったので、蟹とサバの美しいお料理をいただきました。パンジーや薔薇の花びらが添えてあって綺麗でした。お味もすばらしい！デザートはラズベリ−チーズケーキとラズベリーソルベ。たらふく食べて幸せです。

It was our anniversary yesterday and my husband took me to a restaurant called, Blue Hill. They have a farm in upstate New York and their fresh ingredients come from their farm. I wanted to try their lamb, but they did not have it so I had a crab dish and a mackerel dish. The desert was great, too - raspberry cheesecake with raspberry sorbet! Needless to say that we ate too much!

Aamir khan! ボリウッド大スターアミールカーン！

きのうは彼の新作（と言っても去年の映画）「ガジー二」を見て大感動しました！カンフーがボリウッドに出会った！という、カンフーファンの私にとっては何とも嬉しい作品。でも、さすが、ボリウッドを代表するアミールの映画だけあって、かなり良くできていました。記憶を失ってしまったビジネスタイクーンが、苦労をしながら婚約者の敵をうつというストーリー。完璧主義者でもあるアミールは、鍛え抜いたボディを大披露。６パック（お腹の筋肉）どころか８パックには呆然とした私でした。あ〜やっぱり彼は私の永遠のアイドルです。きゃ〜！

I watched "Ghajini" last night, one of the latest films by Aamir Khan, the biggest Bollywood star. Needless to say, he is my favorite movie star - he is amazing! This film was perfect for me: it's like, Bollywood meets Kung-fu! Aamir is known as a perfectionist and he shows his very well-trained 8 packs in this film. It's a must-see film. Enjoy!

Treasure of Tibet チベットの宝品

The exhibition of collected artifacts from the Potala Palace has been organized by the Chinese government in Japan and there will be one at the Ueno Royal Museum this September. I began this opposition campaign with many powerful Tibet supporters from around the world because the exhibition does not explain what Potala Palace was nor one word about the Dalai Lama who was the residence of the Potala until he had to flee to India in 1959 due to the Chinese occupation. High Line Park in Chelsea ハイラインパーク

６月にやっとオープンした「ハイラインパーク」に行って来ました。ミートマーケットエリアにある入り口には、長い行列が。NY市の公園なので入場はフリー！今、話題のスポットです。ここは、１９３０年代に、日本で言うと歩道橋のようなところ（地上からかなり上の場所に道路があります）に鉄道が走っていた場所を、そのまま保存し、公園に作り替えたのです。マンハッタンの地上の鉄道レールを歩くのは、なんともシュールでした。眺めも最高です。最近できたフランクゲリーデザインのビル（写真上）も見えるし、エンパイアーステイトビルも見える。そして下から２番目の写真。グリーンのスカートをはいた少女、すごい位置に立っていて危ない！と思いませんか？これ、ガラス張りなんです。遠くから見る人はみな「ドキッ」として息の飲みます。笑　ブラブラした後は、チェルシーのフレンチカフェで、チョコレートたっぷりのクレープをたいらげました！

We finally went to check out the Highline Park in Chelsea. There were so many people waiting in line at the entrance in the meatpacking area. Nowadays everyone is talking about this new park that opened in June. This railroad was build back in the 1930's and as the trucking industry had developed it was abandoned in 1960's to be demolished. Local activists fought to preserve it and now it has turned into a beautiful city park!

My Favorite Park! お気に入りの公園

この素晴らしいマンハッタンの景色！左側の青いビルは国連ビル。そのとなりに見えるのがアールデコのデザインが美しいクライスラービル。右側の黒い高い建物が、トランプビルのひとつで、確かあの有名な日本の野球選手が住んでいるマンションです！この公園は、ロングアイランドシティの川沿いに先週オープンしたばかりの、「エコパーク」。そう、この公園の素材はすべてリサイクルマテリアルなのです。すばらしい！真っ赤なお洒落なデッキチェアーや、オレンジ色のハンモック、、、。すべて、そうなんです。公園の中には、野菜＆ハーブガーデンもあります。もう、本当に最高！

Look at this spectacular view of Manhattan! The blue building on the left is the United Nation building. The one next to it is the beautiful art-deco Chrysler building. The one on the right, a tall black building is one of the Trump buildings where a few famous baseball players live. This park on the river in Long Island City and it is totally eco-friendly. All the materials for the park are made from recycle materials, such as deck chairs and orange hammocks! There is even a vegetable & herb garden. I just love it here.

Happy B'Day, the Dalai Lama!

７月６日はダライラマ法王のお誕生日。今年で７４歳になられました。祖国を侵略されて５０年、、、。非暴力を唱え、未だに祖国とチベット人のために頑張っておられます。一日も早く、ダライラマとチベット人たちが、自由と人権と共に祖国に戻れますように。お誕生日パーティがチベットハウス美術館で開催されました。上の写真は故リチャードアベドン（ファッションフォトグラファーの巨匠）によるポートレイト。上の仏像は、美術館のものですが、なんともチャーミングな表情が気に入っています。モモ（チベタン餃子）など沢山いただき、楽しい一夜でした。

July 6 is the Dalai Lama's Birthday and he is 74 years old today. He has been away from his own home, Tibet, for the last 50 years. I pray for him and his people's freedom and human rights in Tibet. The party was held at the Tibet House Museum in Chelsea. The photo above is his portrait taken by Richard Avedon, one of the legendary fashion photographers in our history. The Buddha statue is a collection of the Tibet House. I love this Buddha's charming expression!

ジャムに夢中 I Love Jams!

アップステイトの旧友を訪れた時、みんなで近くのキングストンという可愛い街に遊びに行くと、運良く野外ファーマーズマーケットが！オーガニック野菜やチーズ、パン、スイーツ、野花、蜂蜜、、と、ずらり屋台が並びます。ハドソン近辺は美味しいフルーツが豊富にとれるので、ローカルの手作りジャムが沢山売られていました。中でも私はブラックカラントが一番好きです。子供の頃、父がヨーロッパのお土産で買ってきてくれた「黒すぐり」のジャムを初めて食べて以来、虜になりました。あの何とも独特のすっぱさ！この市場では２つも大瓶をゲット。今シーズンのチェリーも美味しかった！やっぱり新鮮な食材は最高です。

We all drove up to Kingston from Rhinecliff and found this lovely farmers' market on the street. There were fresh greens, fruits, cheese, flowers and everything! I have loved black current jams ever since I was a child so I bought two large ones. I remember that my father had brought me a jar of black currant jam from Europe when I was 6 and the taste was nothing like I ever had. Black currants were rare in Japan that time (maybe still are) and to me it was like a "miracle jam."!
