Water Dragon Tibetan Losar 2139 チベットの水龍お正月

Today is the Losar, the Tibetan New Year. Normally the Tibetans celebrate Losar by eating momos (Tibetan dumplings) and kapse (cookies), dancing and singing, but there is no celebrating this year because of the devastating situation in Tibet. The Tibetans in Tibet have been suffering under the Chinese oppression, and many Tibetans have self-immolated recently.
The photo above shows how many young Tibetan monks and nuns have done so in order to draw the international attention for help.

Can you imagine how desperate they are to do such a thing? Why self-immolate? It's because they believe in non-violence (based on Buddhist teaching not to kill any sentient beings), therefore, they self-sacrifice crying out for help. 24 young Tibetan monks have self-immolated so far, and yet, still, the international community has not stood up strong enough to the Communist China's brutal policy in Tibet.

The Chinese government kills people like bugs. And, the world does not speak up, criticize nor stand up for human rights strongly enough. No matter how much the modern technology has been developed the ugly human nature has not changed... how sad is that?

It was the New Moon last night, and I could not sleep at all. So I prayed for all the people who are suffering in the world all night.

上の写真は、ここ最近になって、チベット内で焼身自殺
をした若い僧侶たち。殆どがティーンエージャーと、２０代
の若者たちです。２人は尼さんです。基礎的な人権が
全く無いチベット人たちは、こうして世界に苦しみを知って
ほしい、助けてほしい、、という想いを込めて、このような
行動をとっているのです。

チベット人たちを弾圧している中国政府の人間や、中国人を
傷つけるのではなく、自分を犠牲にして世界にアピールする
この行為は、「非暴力主義」に基づいている姿勢であり、仏教
の教え（生きているものを殺さない）に基づいている行動なのです。

自らを犠牲として、自由な声を持たない者たちが世界に助けを
求めているのです。こんなに切なく切羽詰った状況を、どうか想像して
みてください。

人を虫けらのように殺す中国政府。それに対して堂々と発言や批評を
充分にしない国際社会。２０１２年という今日、未だに
こんなことが毎日起こっているのですね、、。いくらテクノロジーが
発達しようと、人間ってなかなか進歩しないのだなあ、、と思うこの頃です。

昨夜は新月。複雑な想いばかりで一睡もできませんでしたが、一晩中、
この世で苦しむ人たちにお祈りを捧げました。

Too Cute! 可愛いすぎます！

This photo of three porcupine brothers came to me on facebook the other day. They are just too cute!!! First, I thought they were the newest style of ear muffs or something. They are indeed the God's creations! I hope they grow up healthy and strong :)

この可愛らしさたるや、ウソみたいではありませんか？
こういうものを見ると、神様って凄いなあと思います。

Winter in New York ニューヨークの冬

I was planning to spend February in New York, but had to change to May due to some scheduling. Why in February?, you may be wondering... actually, I love winter in New York! All my cute winter gears make me happy, and I truly enjoy bundle up and walk in the white snowy city. Socal is a paradise, but as a Japanese who grew up enjoying the four seasons I do miss the snow... NoLita, just wait for me, ok?

２月をニューヨークで過ごす予定でしたが、いろいろな
スケジュールの変更のため５月に延期しました。
またなぜわざわざ寒い時期をNYで？と思いますよね？
実は私、NYの冬って大好きなんです。可愛い冬服のギア
も一式揃えてあるし、お気に入りのスノーブーツを履いて
あの雪で真っ白になった街を歩くの大好き！
南カリフォルニアは天国ですが、やっぱり四季を楽しみ
ながら育った日本人として、雪は恋しいなあ～
ノリータ（写真）よ、もう少し待っててね～！

"Save the Himalayas" have been shipped! 絵本を贈りました！

I am so happy to announce that my new book, "Save the Himalayas" have been shipped to the main office of The Dalai Lama in New Delhi, India! Upon the arrival the books will be distributed to 77 Tibetan refugee schools in India, Nepal and Bhutan. "Save the Himalayas" is a children's book that is written in English, Japanese and Tibetan. It is about protecting the environment.
The photo shows my 3 other books at a library of the Tibetan refugee school in Leh, Ladakh. The books were getting so torn because the children read them over and over, they said. I was so happy that I burst into tears.
My publisher, Sanctuary Publishing, helped us so much in the process of shipping. Again I thank all of you who have helped this project! Thank you!

絵本「不思議な冒険」を、インドはニューデリーにある
ダライ・ラマ法王の事務所ヘッドクオーターに贈りました！
届いた絵本は、先方がインド、ネパール、ブータンにある
７７校のチベット難民学校へ配布してくださる予定です。
上の写真は、前回訪問したインドはヒマラヤのラダックに
あるチベタン学校の本棚にあった私の３冊の絵本。
ボロボロになるまで皆が愛読してくれていると知って、
感激で号泣した私でした、、。

今回、絵本を送る上で、出版社のサンクチュアリ出版の
皆さんから沢山のご協力をいただきました。
このプロジェクトを応援してくださった皆さんへも、あらためて
感謝しております！どうもありがとうございました！

Tibet Is Burning チベットが燃えている

20 young Tibetans have self-immolated lately inside of Tibet. They are sacrificing their lives to appeal to the international world for help. They are more than desperate - a man kills himself only in despair. There are no human rights for the Tibetans in Tibet. If/when they stand up the Chinese government takes them to prison, tortures and kills them. February 8th was the world vigil for the Tibetan victims. At the Union Sq. in New York City more than 500 people gathered to attend the vigil for the courageous Tibetans, and prayed all night.

すでに２０人のチベット人が焼身自殺をしているチベット。
それもごく最近のことで、ここのところ毎日のように続いて
います。殆どが１０代から３０代の若い僧侶たち、、。
理由はただ一つ。国際社会にチベット内での状況を
知ってほしいと叫んでいるのです。チベット人に人権
はありません。中国政府に鎮圧され、声を上げれば
拷問を受け殺されます。２月８日は世界中で同時に
「チベットの犠牲者のための法要」が開催され、
日本では東京の護国寺で法要がありました。
上の写真はニューヨークのユニオンスクエアのヴィジュル
（お通夜）。５００人以上が公園の一角に集まり、祈りました。

Crocs クロックス

While talking to my best friend in New York she told me that she was going to the new Crocs shop in SoHo. Funny, I had just bought a pair here in San Diego - a pink classic. Suddenly, I realized that I had not researched about crocs. I am a conscious shopper. I always research before purchase. This time I totally forgot because I was just so excited to find something so suitable to my beach-life in Socal!
Fortunately, crocs are not made in China (they are made in Canada, at least that is what they say), and I was relieved to know that I am not wearing something that were made by child labor in China. How about environment? Is it good for our planet? Hum... yes and no. Yes, because it is recyclable and it's not killing the animal for shoes. It's bad because producing shoes create so much pollution anyway. So I don't win. After all, I was thinking that bringing more plastic on this earth is not a good idea... ;(

In my high school time I used to wear the wooden clogs. They were not necessarily comfortable, but it was a trend, so I wore them, too. Even these light-weight modern crocs I don't necessarily think they look good on people. They look like duck feet, rather.., don't they? That is why I bought a pink pair instead of the orange pair (Mario Batali's edition!)

NYの親友リズと電話でおしゃべり。これから最近ソーホーにできた
クロックスのショップに行くというのです。実はちょうど
私が南カリフォルニアでゲットしたのが、これ。
クロックスのピンクのクラシック。

そして買った後にハッとした私。そう、私はコンシャスショッパー。
何かを買う前にはちゃんとリサーチするタイプ。健康に良いか、
環境に良いか、どんな背景で作られているか、、。調べた結果、
まずは中国製でなくてカナダ産。環境に良いかどうかは、また
これは２面性あり。リサイクルできるから良い、革製品でないという利点
はあるけれど、生産上、やはり公害が出るのも確か。（ま、靴は全て
そうですが、、、）少なくとも、中国のチャイルドレイバー（子供の強制労働）
によって作られていないということで安心したのでした、、。でも、やっぱり
この惑星上にプラスティックを増やしているということは、よろしくないかもなあ、、。

クロッグはNYのハイスクール時代に愛用した
木靴。でも当時のグロッグは重くて楽じゃなかったな。
トレンドで無理に履いてたけれど、、。笑
このクロックスのは軽くて履きやすいのです。サンディエゴの
ようにビーチが多いところではとっても便利。見た目は、、。
う～ん。見た目は未だにあまりカッコいいとは思えないのですが
ま、キュートだからいいか。だって、アヒルの足みたいに
見えませんか？笑　だから、オレンジじゃなくてピンクにしたの。

Guavas in SoCal 南カリフォルニアのグワヴァ

A friend who has guava trees in her garden brought me so many fresh guavas, and the sweet aroma is everywhere in my house! To me guavas mean Hawaii - as I used to spend my holidays in Hawaii as a child my first time ever to experience guava juice was in Hawaii. Also it was my very first time to see a very fat man, too. He was a second-generation Japanese Hawaiian, and he said to me, "I got so fat by drinking too much guava juice." Guava juice must contain lots of added sugar. However, guava fruit is very healthy. High in fiber, vitamin C and A, potassium, lots of minerals... No wonder I got so full after eating several guavas!

I heard that in Hawaii people eat guavas with soy sauce and vinegar, and I wonder if it is true. In India they are eaten with rock salt and black peppers. I ate some with sea salt today. Since they are so good I wanted to share with my neighbours. Some were happy, some were not. I asked the ones who did not want them, and they politely said to me, "Well, hum, they kind of smell like... pee!"

お庭にグワヴァの木を持つ友人が、採りたてをこんなに
持って来てくれました。もう家中が甘酸っぱいアロマで
いっぱい！私にとってグワヴァの香は、ハワイ。
よくヴァカンスをハワイで過ごした子供の頃、生まれて初めて
飲んだグワヴァジュースの味が忘れられません、、。
それと同時に生まれて初めてあんなに太った人を見た
のもハワイ。日系の男性でしたが、彼いわく「グワヴァジュース
を飲み過ぎた」とか。おそらくジュースには砂糖がたっぷり入っている
からでしょうね。

でも、グワヴァ自体は健康食です。食物繊維たっぷり、そして
ビタミンC、A、ポタシウム、ミネラル、、、栄養満点です！
どおりでいくつもパクパクと食べていたら異常にお腹が一杯
になったはず。

ハワイでは酢醤油で食べると聞きましたが本当かな？インドでは
ロックソルトや黒胡椒、マサラをつけて食べます。
私はシーソルトをほんのちょっぴりつけて食べました。
こんなに沢山なので、ご近所のお友達にも分けました。
喜んでくれた人もいれば、ちょっと困った顔の人も、、、。
「どうして？」と聞いたら、恥ずかしそうに、「だって、グワヴァって
オシッコの臭いしない～？」だって！
（しない！しない！）
