Back in Socal from India インドから南カリフォルニアに戻りました

I just came home from my two-week-trip to India after spending a couple of days in New York, and there are so much that I have not been able to process from such an intense country, India. It was a fabulous trip, indeed! Thank you for following me on Twitter while I was in India - since I am not a big fan of Twitter I am not sure how often I will tweet in the future, but I will definitely write about my India trip here on my blog - coming soon!

お久しぶりです～！
２週間ちょっとのインドの旅を終え、ニューヨークで２日過ごして
昨日、南カリフォルニアに戻りました。強烈なインドの旅、
まだプロセス仕切れないことがいっぱい。素晴らしい旅でした。
インド旅行中、ツイッターでフォローして下さった皆さん、ありがとう。
ツイッターはあまり好きでないので、今後どれくらいツイートするか
分かりませんが、このブログでは、インド日記をアップして行く予定です！

After spending a day in New York tomorrow, I am off to India! I cannot wait to visit a Tibetan nunnery (like this photo from Ladakh) up in the Himalayas. Talking about the high mountains, I am not sure how much WiFi I will have the access to, but definitely will be trying to tweet. In the past I never tweeted because it is an one-way monologue, and it never interested me. However, tweeting will be suitable for my trip in India, so that I can keep providing you some interesting reports! So for the next two weeks I will see you on Tweeter!

明日、一日ニューヨークで過ごしてからインドへ発ちます。
この写真（ラダックのお寺の尼さんたち）のようなチベット尼寺にも
また行く予定です。ヒマラヤの奥地なのでインターネットも
繋がらないかも知れませんが、ツイッターをできるだけしようと
思います。ツイッターはフェイスブックと違って一方的な感じ
があり、全くしてなかったのですが始めてみますネ。
皆さん、それではこれから２週間ほどツイッターで会いましょう！

20 Years as an Artist 画家のキャリア２０年目

It's my 20th year as a full-time artist this year, and yesterday my assistant gave me a report that I've sold 447 original work and 751 prints, and done over a thousand commercial work so far. I think that I've worked hard, indeed! However, I feel so fortunate because I love to draw and paint. As long as there is something I want to express, and as long as art is my tool to do so, I will continue working as an artist. Thanks to my fans and collectors! Now I am off to treat myself a huge eclair. ;p

今年で画家としてデビューして２０周年目になります。
昨日、アシスタントから報告が来て、今までに４４７枚
の原画と７５１枚の版画が出たそうです。そして
コマーシャルの仕事は１千以上。うわ～よく頑張った
なあ、、。笑　でも、絵を描くのが好きな私、本当に
幸せだとつくづく思います。表現したいことがある限り、
そして絵をツールとしていける限り、これからも
描いて行きたいと思います。ファンの皆さん、コレクター
の皆さん、いつも応援、どうもありがとうございます！

Sweet Elderberry Syrup 甘〜いエルダーベリーシロップ

I've been suffering from a combination of the seasonal allergy and a cold, so I went to see a doctor. My trip to India is coming up soon, so I have to be extra careful about my health! My western-medicine doctor surprised me by saying, "Rima, you should take some elderberry syrup. It tastes so good, too." Elderberries look like this - how lovely!


So, on the way home I bought one at the Whole Foods. There were so many elderberry syrups on the shelf that made me realize how popular they were. Later I asked my friends about the syrup, and they all told me that they take it on the regular basis. So, how about the taste? It tastes like blueberry syrup, and it is quite yummy. I cannot believe that something tastes that good is good for the immune system! This syrup will be my important travel companion to India for sure :)

ひどい花粉症と軽い風邪のコンビに悩まされた私は、ドクターに
診察してもらいに行って来ました。インドに発つ前なのでいつも以上
に健康にはきをつけないと！西欧医学のお医者様なのですが、
「エルダーベリーのシロップを飲みなさい。美味しいですヨ。」とのこと。
初めて聞いた名前でしたが、こんな形をしているんですネ。可愛い～

早速、帰りにホールフーズマーケットに寄って、ゲットしました。
棚にはあらゆるブランドのエルダーベリーシロップがずらり。
後で友人たちに聞いたら、みんな飲んでるって！こんな人気アイテム
だとは知らなかったなあ。そこでお味は、、、？
ブルーベリーシロップみたいで、ほんと美味しかったです。こんなに
美味しくて、しかも免疫効果があるなんて信じられません。
インドでの大切な旅のコンパニオンになりそうです。

Delivering My Books 絵本を届けに

I have sent hundreds of my 4th children's book, "Save the Himalayas" to the Tibetan refugee schools in exile, and they will be distributed to 77 schools in India, Nepal and Bhutan soon. Meanwhile, I wanted to read my book to the children in person, see how they enjoy the book and get their feedback, so I've decided to go to India again. I will be carrying additional copies with me (they are so heavy!) My pug, Chai says that he loves the book. That's because there is a dog in the book which looks just like him!

私の４册目の絵本「不思議な冒険」を既にインドに
贈りました。もうすぐインド、ネパール、ブータンにある
７７のチベット難民学校へ配布されます。でも、実際
に難民の子供たちと一緒に絵本を読んだり、感想を
聞いたりしたいなあと思い、もうすぐインドへ発ちます。
絵本もさらに持って行きますよ～（重いけど！）
私のパグ犬チャイも、この絵本がお気に入りですって！
（自分にそっくりな犬が登場するからだろうな、、笑）

One of the most delicious food on Earth この世で最も美味しいもの

Can you tell what these are? They kind of look like rolled omelets, don't they? Actually, these are Khandvi, the Gujarati delicacy from India. I encountered this tasty dish last year in NYC - my best friend liz had gone to the middle of nowhere in Queens by car, and brought them back to me. She told me that there is a tiny Gujarati deli there, and since Khandvi is so popular you must call ahead and reserve some. I cannot tell you how tasty they were, and I totally fell in love with them!

Khandvi is made of chick pea flower, and it takes so much time and labor to make. I tried to make it at home once, but gave up before I began. Luckily I found an Indian shop in San Diego which sells Khandvi only on the weekends. Here, also, you must call ahead and reserve. It is a popular item, indeed!

So, I called to reserve 20 pieces, went there, bought them. As I could not wait I tasted one right away. OMG! My tongue was burning in hell!!! There were so much chilies in them that I could not eat at all... ;( My tongue was in pain, but it was more painful that I could not have any. Awww...
So my lucky husband ate them all that night.

このお料理、何か分かりますか～？卵焼きロールにも見えますよね？
実はこれ、カンヴィというインドはクジャラート地方のデリカシーで、
それはそれは美味しいんです！
一番最初にカンヴィと出会ったのは、まだつい最近、昨年のこと。
ニューヨークで、親友リズが持って来てくれたのです。一口食べて
すっかり虜に！リズいわく、クイーンズ地区の地下鉄も走ってない
ような奥地に車で行って買うんだそう。しかも、あっという間に売れ切れ
てしまうので、皆電話で予約して行くとか。
カンヴィは、ひよこ豆の粉を練って作るお料理ですが、それはそれは
手間と時間がかかります。私も自宅で作ってみようと思いましたが、
諦めました。笑

サンディエゴのインド街でもカンヴィを売っているお店を発見！
週末しか販売されないカンヴィはあっと言う間に売り切れるため、
やはりここも予約制だとか。早速２０個予約して買いに行きました。
支払いをして待ちきれなくて一つ食べてみると、、、。
ひ～っ！辛いっ！
ここのは半端じゃない量のチリが入っていた！

舌もしびれて痛かったけど、それよりも残念で落ち込んだ私でした、、。
チリが苦手な私、、、。涙、涙、涙。
結局は、お家に持って帰って、旦那さんが平らげたのでした。

At The Winter Beach 冬のビーチで

We noticed a big crowd at our favorite beach, the Swami in Encinitas one day. People were raving about this tiny creature with four legs. They told me the name of it, but I forgot it... They live between the rocks and stones under the water. I certainly must be careful not to step on them in the future :)

この間、大好きなエンシニタスのスワミビーチに行った
時のことです。なんやら人が沢山集まって騒いでいるので
近寄ってみると、、。こんなに小さなタコのような動物が
いて、皆が「オ～キュート！キュート！」と悲鳴をあげて
いたのでした。足は４本。名前を聞いたけれど忘れちゃった。
海の中の岩や石の間をスルスルと歩いていました。
いろんな所でいろんな動物が生きているんですね。
うっかり踏まないように気をつけなくちゃと思いました。
