Rima's Cards 理麻カードコレクション

I select ten art works to make a limited-edition 10-postcard set every year, and I've been doing this for many years now. Some sets are already sold out, but I make sure to keep one set for myself. Lately people are ordering my cards more than ever, and I was intrigued by it - anything in print form has been disappearing as our world becomes more digital. So why? I hear that they like to buy my cards as collector's items. How nice is that! Thank you~!

毎年、新作の中から１０枚選んで発表しているポストカードセットの
オーダーが最近増えています。デジタル化が進み、紙のものが
どんどん減っているこの時代に不思議な現象だなあ～と思っていましたが、
聞くところによると「コレクターズアイテム」として大事にして下さって
いるそう。嬉しいことです！　もうソールドアウト（売り切れ）になって
しまったセットも沢山ありますが、私も手元に１セットは記念に
ちゃんととってあるんですよ～

Cacao Tree カカオの木

The first time ever I saw this Mexican chocolate was at a party hosted by the Mexican Consulate people. The caterers were busy making the famous Mexican hot chocolate in the kitchen using this round-disk chocolate. The Mexican chocolates have cinnamon and much less milk in them (That is what I heard.) As a chocoholic myself this was extremely fascinating!

初めてこのメキシカンチョコレートを見たのは、メキシコ領事館の人たちのパーティ場でした。ケイタリングのスタッフたちがキッチンであの有名なメキシカンチョコレート（ホットココア）を、このディスク形のチョコで作っているのを見たのです。メキシカンチョコレートはシナモンが入っていてミルクの割合も少ないと聞きました。チョコホーリックにとっては何とも興味津々！




Recently I noticed that there was a cacao tree near my house. A cacao tree in San Diego? Hum... I couldn't believe it, but hey, it is a cacao tree, indeed! I walk by the tree twice a day every day, just to see if any of the "fruits" would be fallen on the ground. Why? So that I can take it home (so far no luck.) I will take out the beans, ferment them, dry them, take the cacao power out of them, and make some chocolate... yes, I am serious!

最近、自宅の近くにカカオの木が生えていることに気付きました。サンディエゴにカカオの木？ふ〜む、、信じられないけど、本当にカカオの木なんです。私は毎日、この木の前を２度散歩して、カカオの実が地面に落ちてないかチェックしています。なぜって？落ちてたらお家に持って帰って、中のビーンズを発酵させ、乾かして、中のパウダーをとってチョコレートを作ってみたいんです、、。マジですよ〜！



I have so many of this 85% Dark Chocolate from Trader Joe. They were given to us over the Christmas holidays. 85% is intense... I like 70%. So no one eats them, and they are just sitting on our kitchen counter for days..., but I like the package drawing. I've looked at it every single day for long enough that as if this cacao fruit has manifested near my house! Again tomorrow I will walk by the cacao tree to see if a fruit has fallen. Wish me luck :)

このトレイダージョーの８５％のダークチョコ。クリスマス時期に沢山いただいたのですが、キッチンカウンターにそのまま置いてあります。８５％は強烈、、。やっぱり７０％が好きだなあ。でもこのパッケージは可愛い。このカカオの実を何日も見ていたら、まるでそれが近所に出現したかのよう！また明日、カカオの実が落ちているかどうか見に行って来ます。幸運を祈っていてくださいね〜。

Angels Must Exist! 天使は絶対いる！

I encountered this master piece, "The Discouraged Artist" by Henri Fantin-Latour at the Getty Center in L.A. It is a drawing of an uninspired artist surrounded by supporting angels. Oh, do I know this feeling! As all artists cannot avoid slumps once in a while I know the pain as well. Even sports athletes go through slumps. However, slumps do end eventually, and I do believe that there are angles around us! Perhaps Latour himself was in slump when he drew this. Perhaps he created this beautiful piece praying to end his slump. Now, that is a true artist endurance and spirit!

これはロスアンジェルスのゲティセンター（美術館）に
ある傑作の一枚。アンリ・ファンタン・ラトウールの
「The Discouraged Artist」という作品。勇気を失った
芸術家、、、とでも訳しましょうか。つまりスランプに陥って
悩んでいる画家さんなのです。あ～可哀想。同じ画家と
して辛い経験をした私にはよく分かります、、。アーティスト
なら誰でも知っているこの痛み。スポーツ選手だってそう。
スランプって誰にでもやってくるものなんですネ。でも、
どんなに辛くても、必ず天使が見守ってくれている、、。
私はそう信じています。この絵を描いた画家も、この時
スランプだったのかも知れません。すがる想い、祈る想いから
この素晴らしい作品が誕生したのかも知れませんね。
それこそ真の芸術。そして芸術家の根性だ～！

Art of "Merde" Part 2 チャイのウンチアートその２

This pug peeing standing is not my pug, Chai, but Chai pees and poos just like that. I've been trying to photograph him to prove it to you, but every time I try to catch him with my camera he stops doing his magical style. He must be a bit shy. Anyway, trust me, I am not lying!

この逆立ちをしながらオシッコしているパグは私のパグ、チャイではありませんが、チャイもこのような格好でオシッコ＆ウンチをします。皆さんに信じてもらうために、いつもカメラを構えているのですが、カメラを向けるとすぐにチャイはこのスタイルを止めてしまうんです。これでも一応恥ずかしいのかなあ、、。でも、ほんとですヨ！嘘なんかついてませんよ〜！

Since then, Chai has been polishing his skill to bring his art into the next level. His "merde" has been put up much higher than ever before!

この「ウンチアート」については昨年８月にこのブログでも書きましたが、あれからチャイは一層磨きをかけています。アートを次のレベルに持って行こうとしているみたい。この作品も、過去よりさらに高い位置に成功！



Today he managed to create a beautiful piece right on the cactus. Not only that... when you look at it carefully his "merde" has a fascinating shape...! Do you see what I see?!? lol
Chai has become a serious artist. Now he is almost 3 years old, and he is no longer a child. It's about time that he makes his own living... with his organic & natural creation!

今日はカクタスの上に美しい作品を創作しました。それだけじゃありません、、よく見ると何か興味深い形をしていませんか？笑　チャイはシリアスな芸術家になりつつあるようです。もうすぐ３歳。もう子供じゃないですね。そろそろ自立しないと、、、そう、オーガニックでナチュラルな創造でね！

Kalachakra 2012 in Bodhgaya ブッダガヤでのカラチャクラ

The 32nd Kalachakra is now going on in Bodhgaya, India. Kalachakra translates as "wheel of time" in Sanskrit, and it is a Buddhist prayer for the world peace (although the content of the teaching is highly complex.) Currently 200,000 people are participating the teachings led by the Dalai Lama.

今、ブッダが悟りに到達した地、インドはブッダガヤにて３２回目のカラチャクラが
開催されています。カラチャクラとは「時の輪」というサンスクリットの言葉。仏教の
「世界平和への祈り」です。でも実際のティーチングはそれはそれは奥深く複雑
なものです。今、２千万人程が世界中から集まって、ダライ・ラマ法王によるティーチング
に集中しているのです。



Kalachakra cannot be done without this intricate and exquisite sand mandala created by the Buddhist monks and the Dalai Lama. It takes days to complete it. It is an offering to the universe, therefore, after it's completed the monks destroy it with the brushes. The collected sand is provided to the participants, and it is also poured into a river or an ocean.

カラチャクラに欠かせないのが砂曼荼羅。この気が遠くなるような
模様はすべてお坊さんたちの手によって作られます。何日もかかる
作業ですが、最後完成すると一気に筆で破壊してしまいます。
なぜならば、砂曼荼羅は「この世に永遠のものは何もない」ことのシンボルでも
あり、また砂曼荼羅は宇宙へのお供えだからです。ですから、破壊された
砂は、参加者に配られ、川や海に「戻され」るのです。


Many of my friends from all over the world are now attending this amazing Kalachakra. I wanted to go so badly, but knowing myself really well I didn't. Bodhgaya is not a piece of cake - it is not clean, and the facilities are not so good. Even the Dalai Lama joked yesterday, "You all came here to get sick! lol" So I am watching the teachings on the webcast. Thanks to the modern technology! I don't have to be in India in order to receive a priceless teachings from a living masters those days. Of course, it is the best to be there..., but for a person like me who gets sick in India often, the webcast is perfect. What is really important is to apply what you learn in your everyday life after all.

私の友人たちも沢山世界中からブッダガヤに集まっています。
私だって行きたかったですよ～！でもとても無理だと判断しました。
インドでさえたいへんなのにブッダガヤに行ったら死んでしまいそう。汗
衛生面もひどいし、設備も整っていません。（でもそういうところが
好きなんですが）きのう、ダライラマ法王でさえが、「皆ブッダガヤに
病気になりに来たんですね！わっはっは～！」とジョークを飛ばしたくらい
です。なので私は断念しました。そのかわり、毎日ウエブキャストで
ティーチングを見ています。本当に有り難い時代になりました。
インドまで行かなくても素晴らしいティーチングを素晴らしいマスター
たちによって受けられるなんて。もちろん同じ場所にいることが一番
ベストですが、何よりも大切なことは、学んだことを自分の毎日の
生活にアプライすることですよネ。（ガンバロウ、、、笑）

Levitate~Bird Flying~ 鳥が飛ぶ

On the New Year's Day I made some avocado & cheese sandwiches, and we went to the Balboa Park to have a picnic lunch at the Lotus Pond. Then we napped on the grass there. We headed to the Cactus Garden, one of my favorite places in San Diego, to check out the eerie and beautiful cacti. There is a tree that I always sit under to meditate. To wish a good new year I sat under the tree to meditate, but Chai came to bother me ;)

元旦の日は、アボカド＆チーズサンドイッチを作ってバルボアパークの
ロータスポンドでピクニック。ランチの後はしばらく芝生の上でお昼寝。
その後は「カクタスガーデン」までお散歩。ここはサンディエゴの中でも
一番好きな場所のひとつ。それはそれは凄い光景なんです。うねるサボテン
だらけで不気味で美しい！この木は私がよくメディテーションをする木。
今回も瞑想して良い新年のスタートにしようと思っていたら、チャイがちゃっかり
私にのっかって来て邪魔しました。笑




During the meditation somehow I remembered this levitating game we used to play as kids. We used to call it, "Bird Flying" game. It is like this photo above: four persons levitate a sitting person with their two fingers. I wonder if many of you have played this game when you were children. As a small 3rd grader I levitated a big male teacher with 3 other friends, I remember. The teacher went up so high, and we could not believe it. I still don't knot how this works, but it is certainly a fun game to play!

瞑想中にふと思い出したのが、子供の頃よくして遊んだ
ゲーム「鳥が飛ぶ」です。この写真のように、座っている
ひとを４人の指２本で持ち上げるというもの。皆さんも
子供の頃しませんでしたか？　それにしても不思議なゲーム、、。
日本の小学校にいた頃、がっしりした男の先生を小さな
私たちが持ち上げて高く飛ばせたのを覚えています。
一体これはどうなってるか分かりませんが、面白いゲームですね！
