Gold Rush ゴールドラッシュ

May I brag about my gold collection a little? Yes, gold is my weakness..., especially the Indian yellow gold! I have no interests in expensive bags, cars, clothing or anything, but gold and Buddha statues are my sweet spots :) When I was a child I thought that gold looked so vulgar and until my early thirties I only wore silver. Then, I went to India. That was the only beginning of my painful gold obsession. I felt in love with their breathtaking 22k, 23k and 24k gold jewelry! The photo above is a part of my humble collection (yap, I have more!) Some of them used to belong to my grandmother who also used to love beautiful jewelry :) My mother who has absolutely no interests in jewelry gave me all. Lucky me!

今日はちょっとだけ自慢させてください。そう、私のゴールドコレクション。高価なバッグや服、車、、など全く興味ない私ですが、唯一の弱みが、「金」と「仏像」なんです。
子供の頃は、金はなぜか下品に見えて嫌いでした。３０代初めまでシルバーしか身につけなかった私ですが、インドに行ってすべてが変わってしまった！それがことの始まり始まり、、。インドの２２k、２３k、２４kのイエローゴールドにすっかり魅了されてしまったのです。上の写真はコレクションのほんの一部。（実はまだあるの！笑）中には祖母からもらったものも含まれています。祖母も綺麗な宝石が大好きだった、、。宝石に興味無い母が全部くれるのです。ラッキーな私。へへへ、、、

Buddhas in New York! ニューヨークのブッダ

I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art yesterday and spent a few hours at the Asian Section as usual. This small "red room" is my favorite spot at the entire Met - it is usually very quiet and not many people are there. There is a bench you can sit on... I often sit there and stare at those stunning statues and meditate. "God, I love New York!" That is how I feel when I am surrounded by those amazing treasures from the Himalayas.

メトロポリタン美術館に行って、いつも訪れる大好きなアジアンセクションで、これらの仏像を堪能しました。この「赤い部屋」は静かであまり人もいなく落ち着きます。ベンチがあるので、仏像を見つめながら瞑想したりします。こんな一時は「ああ、ニューヨーク大好き！」と思うものです。

"The Potala Exhibition" has been taking place in Tokyo despite our world-wide protest against it.
It has been organized by the Chinese government and they are making lots of money out of the Tibetan treasures that they stole from the Tibetans. As a Buddha statue collector myself I wanted to see the Buddha statues that once belonged to the Tibetan people, but I absolutely refuse to visit the exhibition. As you can see there are many wonderful Buddhas in New York!

世界中で抗議が続いている上野で開催中の「ポタラ展」は、もうすぐ大阪へと移動します。仏像コレクターでもある私、この展覧会で展示されている、かつてはチベタンたちのものだった仏像を見たい気持ちは当然あります。でも、絶対に私は観に行かない。ニューヨークにだってこんなに素晴らしい仏像たちがいる。

This last photo is a Jain statue. It looks like Buddha, but it is not. Jainism is fascinating. Their religion focus on compassion and I have seen Jain practitioners in India walking around wearing a mask over their mouth - they are trying to avoid killing any living sentient beings. There are many religions in the world..., but they all promote one thing: love & compassion. We got to stop killing each other.
この最後の写真はブッダではなく、ジェイン教の像ですが、ジェイン教は仏教ととても似ています。思い遣りにフォーカスした教えで、よくインドでジェイン教の人々がマスクをして歩いているのを見かけますが、これは、まちがって口から小さな虫などを吸い込んでしまって殺してしまわないようにしているのです。この世にはいろんな宗教がありますが、共通しているのはひとつ：思い遣りと愛。人間は殺し合うことを止めないと、、。

Titanic Santa タイタニック・サンタ？

I visited this lovely town, Olympia (near Seattle) for several days. As a typical winter weather in the Northwest it should have been raining, but the weather was sunny and gorgeous! There was this beautiful harbor in front of our hotel and many boats had cute Christmas decorations. This photo is my favorite "DiCaprio Santa." The town of Olympia was funky, arty, corky and charming. It was a lot like Williamsburg in Brooklyn, New York. Needless to say that I had the best coffee there!

シアトルから車で１時間のチャーミングな街、オリンピアのホテルの前の波止場で撮った写真です。「デカプリオ・サンタ」。オリンピアの街はワシントン州のキャピタルとして知られていますが、ファンキーでアーティスティックでプログレブで、ニューヨークのブルックリンのウイリアムズバーグを思い出させるクリエイティブな街でした。最高のコーヒーを味わったのも言うまでもありません〜！

Wally is gone... 遠くへ行ってしまったウオリー

Chai's best friend, Wally has moved to New Jersey... I have not told Chai this sad news yet so Chai is thinking that we will run into Wally very soon. This lovely photo of Wally and Chai was taken by Wally's parents. You can see how much Chai loves Wally! Every time I say the word "Wally" Chai jumps up and runs towards the entrance door thinking that Wally is coming over. I am very sad, too that Wally and his parents are gone. Well, Chai, your birthday is coming... if you a good boy we will take you to see your fluffy best friend!

この写真を見てのとおり、チャイはウオリーに首ったけ。でも、大好きなウオリー君は両親とともにニュージャージに引っ越してしまいました、、、。そんなことも知らないチャイは、ウオリーが住んでいたビルの近くを通るたびに、キョロキョロしています。あ〜可哀想なチャイ、、、！我が家にいても、「ウオリー」と言うと、チャイはすぐに飛び上がってドアーの前に行ってウオリーが来ると思って坐って待ってるんです。チャイよ、もうすぐお誕生日だから、お利口さんにしていたら、ウオリーに会いに連れて行ってあげるからネ。

Silk Road, Upper West Side アッパーウエストのシルクロード

We went to see the "Silk Road" Exhibition at the Museum of Natural History yesterday. For some reason when I hear the word "silk road" my heart always gets restless. I have been drawn to the camels, the deserts, the moon and the travelers... ever since I was a child. The exhibition was rather small, but very charming. It is perfect for children. Then we walked across the Central Park. It was getting dark and the soft moon light was hitting the city. The walk felt long... as if I were traveling through the silk road.

自然博物館で開催されている「シルクロード」展を見て来ました。「シルクロード」という言葉を聞くたびに、心がそわそわする私。子供の頃から、ラクダ、月、砂漠、旅人などに惹かれてきました。もしかしたら前世でシルクロードをうろうろしていたのかも知れません。展示会は小さな規模でしたが、チャーミングなものでした。子供が喜ぶ感じかな。その後は、セントラルパークを歩いてイーストサイドまで横切りました。よく歩くルートなのに、なぜだかすごく長く感じました。まるでシルクロードみたいに、、、。夕暮れ時で、月がマンハッタンをぼんやりと照らしていました。

My recent addiction これ無しではちょっと、、！

I just love this stuff!!! I have been addicted to horse radish for several months now. When I first came to the states as a child I did not know what the horse radish was... it is not a common item in Japan although some farmers in Hokkaido have begun growing them. One day back in spring, I happened to buy a "horse radish hummus" at the Celler in Long Island City. I fell in love with its unique taste and kept buying it everyday! Then, one day, they completely stopped selling it. I got so 'agitated' and 'angry' (sign of addiction!) and could not stop thinking about the horse radish hummus. I went to the Whole Foods and they did not have it. So I just bought a bottle of horse radish and mixed with a regular hummus. It was that simple...why did not I think about that sooner...?!? I put it on everything - sandwitches, grains, crackers... sometimes I just eat it as it is. I thank God for creating this!

春からはまっているのが、このホースラディッシュ。アブラナ科の一種で、日本では西洋ワサビと呼ばれています。私が思うには、ワサビというよりは、大根に近い舌触り。よくローストビーフなどの付け合わせとして出てきますね。渡米したばかりの子供の頃、なんてまずいものだろうと思ったのに、最近は「中毒」になってしまった！サンドイッチはもちろん、玄米とも一緒に食べたりしています！そのままスプーンですくって食べたりもします。それ程好きなんです〜！写真の瓶が３日くらいでなくなってしまうんですよ。

Back in NYC! 久々のニューヨーク

Oh my goodness, I have not written anything here for a long time! My stay in Tokyo was great - being with my parents, seeing friends, eating good food everyday and having my solo-exhibition!
Oh, one more... seeing the Dalai Lama again in Tokyo, too! On the way back to NYC I watched "Julie and Julia." It was a cute movie and it was shot in the Long Island City! I could not wait to walk my dog near the pier (see the photos above)...! I just love it here. Welcome home, Rima!

一ヶ月以上ぶりです！笑　久々のニューヨークは思ったより暖かで、ホッとしました。東京からNYCへと向かう飛行機で見た映画「ジュリーとジュリア」は、私が住むロングアイランドシティがロケで、懐かしかったです。戻った翌日、チャイを連れていつものお散歩コースを楽しみました。川沿いの桟橋（上の写真）です。夜景も見事でしょう？！ホントにここが大好き！もう、どこにも移りたくなりです〜！
